I first met Auntie Edna in 1985 when I was 7 years old, I came home from school and Auntie Edna and Jerry were sitting in my mum and dads lounge , straight away I got a big cuddle from Auntie Edna , who called me Brettley,I remember how cool her accent was and when she gave me the American sweets I was made up, even then she had a big impression on me with her confidence , happiness and enthusiasm,Edna then visited Southampton a couple of times until 1992 came , the year me , mum and dad went to stay in Colorado , pueblo with Auntie Edna and Geoff (living in basement) , Auntie Edna’s “friend” picked us up from the airport , Auntie Edna made us feel so at home , and gave us the best holiday ever , my biggest memory is Auntie Edna doing my lunch in an American paper bag for when I visited the local school with my cousin Gilly, I also met Maggie and Moody was just a baby , it was the holiday of a lifetime and to this day (I’m 43 now) it remains a wonderful memory and it was made wonderful by Auntie Edna , who had the ability to make you feel happy , wanted and special , always coming out with a song.their were also other occasions when auntie would visit Southampton after the holiday.
The thing is when someone dies , people always say how wonderful and special they are , ….but this time 100% Auntie Edna was special , the most special person you could ever meet , she could sing , dance , act , tell jokes , was beautiful , had warmth , enthusiasm , love in her heart , there will never be another Auntie Edna , they broke the mould when she was born , words don’t cut it , to how wonderful and special she truly was xxxxxx
