Velma M. Kovacich entered into eternal life on August 25, 2025, four days before her 95th birthday. She passed away peacefully after a brief illness at Parkview Hospital in Pueblo, Colorado.
She is survived by daughter Shirley and grandson Dylan. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Ed “Drake” Kovacich; parents, John and Margaret Lipitz and siblings, John and Jennie.
Velma was born on August 29, 1930 in the small coal mining town of Delagua, Colorado near Trinidad. Her father was a coal miner. When she was ten years old the family moved to Pueblo. Velma married Ed in the summer of 1947, when she was only 16. Soon after they bought property near the CF&I in Bojon Town. She lived on School Street 78 years until her death and was a faithful parishioner of St. Mary Church.
Velma worked concessions at Pueblo Greyhound Park for 13 years and for Pueblo City Pools before settling into the role of homemaker and grandma the past two decades. She enjoyed working in her puzzle books. A devoted mother and grandmother, Velma loved spending time with Shirley and Dylan. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed going to Rockies and Broncos games and watching them on TV. She loved family gatherings and became the family matriarch. A special thank you to her friend, neighbor and caregiver, Liz.
Funeral Mass,10 a.m. Thursday, September 4, 2025, at St. Mary Church, 307 E. Mesa. Velma will be laid to rest next to her husband Ed at Roselawn Cemetery.

I am SO SORRY to see the loss of your mom!!! She was so good to me and my family! I remember her driving us when we were going to school. You guys would pick me up and take us to school and bring me home also. Grandma adored her, as did I. She was a very kind, loving woman. And the braids ! , I remember your mom and my grandma having long conversations….(Her and her old gorgeous truck) I’ll never forget that…..Prayers and condolences to you and Dylan and extended family. Shirley. I am so sorry to here about the passing of you mom she was a wonderful lady and godmother. At Christmas I would love to go to the house and see all the lights and decorations and loved her petite. I remember how she came to my mom’s funeral and said now member you still have a mom in me. She will be sadly missed my she rest in peace. If you need anything please let me know
