He was a goat-herder at age eight years old, a coal miner at his dad’s prosperity No. 2 coal mine, and proudly served his country in the United States Navy, from July 1954 to July 1958. He was married to Darlene Gonzales for 25 years and had three daughters. Following his military service, he worked at Eaton Metal in Denver, then went back to being a safety inspector for Mid Continent Coal Mine. After that, Tom moved to Pueblo and worked at the steel mill. Before retiring in Aguilar, he worked for Las Animas County.

Tommy, as I knew him, was my classmate rom 6th grade to graduation. He treated everyone with respect and was kind to me as a “new kid” in town and school. He was a hard-working guy even when we were young. He missed lots of school because he was digging coal, but he kept up the good work at school and made it!
Our prayers are with all of his family–it is hard to lose your dad, uncle, brother, and friend.
Thank you Maryellen for sharing your memories and sweet words of our daddy! My dad would be so happy to hear from you! Thank you for your prayers! ❤️
Tom was a kind man! He always had a smile and a joke for us! His smile and laugh was infectious. Now he’s in Heaven resting and watching over his family … RIP Tom! Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Tom!! God bless you all!!
Thank you 🙏
Loving Memories (Your Gentle Face)
Your gentle face and patient smile
With sadness we recall,
You had a kindly word for each
And died beloved by all.
The voice is mute and stilled the heart
That loved us well and true,
Ah, bitter was the trial to part
From one so good as you.
You are not forgotten loved one
Nor will you ever be,
As long as life and memory last
We will remember thee.
We miss you now, our hearts are sore,
As time goes by we miss you more.
Your loving smile, your gentle face,
No one can fill your empty place.

Tom… I only got to meet you a handful of times, but each time you were so joyful and such a bright light! The way Thea’s eyes lit up whenever she talked about you, and the music in her voice when she mentioned her daddy… those are memories I will forever remember.
Thea and family – I am so very sorry for your loss, I know this has had a colossal impact on all of you and the immense grief you must all feel is unimaginable. Thea, I imagine your daddy holding your Mason now, and it brings a smile to my face and a flutter to my heart. I love you friend, always and forever.

I sure am going to miss my Grandpa. He was a walking angel among us. He always taught us to take care of #1. I remember him telling me “when the world gets rough, you’ve got to get tough and stay that way.” I love you Grandpa, thank you for everything you taught me. You are my hero.
He loved you so much!!! You are a good man just like him. We love you
Uncle Tom hitchhiked from San Diego to
our home in Salt Lake City while he was on leave from the Navy. I was a little kid, probably 2. His visit is one of my earliest memories. From that moment on he was always a bigger than life influence on my life. My Uncle Willie, Tom’s brother, taught me my first guitar chords and Tom taught me that real men sing beautiful songs. I will miss his presence in my life and I will always hold him dear to my heart.
He had so many stories it was hard to say which ones he actually lived and ones that he liked to Exaggerate lol. He always talked highly of you. Love you cousin
To the Pantaze Family. It was an honor and pleasure to know Tom. He was always a joy to be around. He made everyone he met feel special. He was a caring loving father and grandpa to his family. And was a great friend to everyone. We will miss you dearly. Rest easy sir.
Thank you 🙏 He asked about you all the time and would say what a good person you are and respected your service to our Country. He loved you for loving his daughter
To the man who helped shape the woman who makes my dad the happiest. You will forever be loved and missed deeply! 🤍🕊️
