February 27, 1941 — May 1, 2026
Theresa Marie “Cookie” Krasovec, 85, of Pueblo, passed away on May 1, 2026.
She was born on February 27, 1941, in Pueblo, to Anna and Frank Krasovec.
Theresa lived a rich and accomplished life. She earned a Fine Arts degree from the
University of New Mexico. Her artistic gifts revealed themselves early; as a girl in
the 1950s, her father recognized her talent and brought her along on jobs painting
billboards at Runyon Field in Pueblo. Throughout her life, Theresa drew on her
artistic and design skills to plan and decorate family events and gatherings. She
adored the Christmas season and festively decorated her own home, her family’s
homes, and, on occasion, even local churches.
Theresa was also a gifted musician. She learned the accordion as a young girl, to
the delight of her extended family, playing Slovenian polkas, traditional Italian
songs, and her beloved Christmas carols. An accomplished seamstress, she designed
and sewed wedding dresses for two of her sisters and tailored a dress for her
nephew’s bride. She was also a fine knitter, gardener, and baker.
For 32 years, Theresa was a special education teacher at Pitts Middle School in
Pueblo District 60, where she had a positive impact on countless students. After
retiring from the district, she continued teaching reading at Pueblo Community
College. In her later years, traveling with her daughter Laura to locations such as
London, Australia, and Hawaii became one of her favorite activities. Theresa was
known for spreading joy and warmth wherever she went.
Theresa was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Anna Krasovec; her
brother, Frank Charles Krasovec; and her sister, Frances Ann Britz. She is survived
by her loving daughter, Laura Stoker Townley, and son-in-law, Derek Townley of
Pueblo; her sisters, Carol Krasovec and Kathleen (Richard) Hostetler, both of
Denver, and Eileen (James) Cain of Windsor; nieces and nephews, John and Betsy
Britz, Melissa and Leonard Thomas, Erica and Jay Hynek, Heidi Kidd, Molly
Hostetler, and Zachary and Heather Cain; great-nieces and great-nephews Sam
Britz, Mallory Britz, Ellis Nelson, Alex Hynek, Emerson Kidd, David Kohn,
Charles Shepard, and Sidney Shepard; and her favorite grand-dogs, Rosie and
Hamish.
