Steve Ellis Slatter, 67, beloved husband, father, Grandfather and friend, passed away on Jan. 1, 2026, in Pueblo, Colorado. Born on May 23, 1958, in Grand Haven, Michigan, Steve led a life defined by dedication to his craft and deep love for his family.
From November 1978 to November 1982, Steve served in the United States Navy as a chef aboard the USS Snook. His military service laid the groundwork for a distinguished career in the culinary arts. Steve and I were good friends in junior high and high school. Many times I have tried to locate him but never found him.
I am sad that we could never connect again just to say hello and reminisce.
Sue, I’m sorry to hear that you’ve lost Steve. I worked next to him at the Riverwatch from opening til summer of ‘86. I met you in 89-90 in Atlanta when I was attending Toccoa Falls Bible College with Janet Ritchie. I learned a great deal from Steve. He was a good boss and a great man. You and the kids are in our prayers.
Hi Sue and family
There’s not a month that goes by I don’t think of Steve. From my first meeting at Riverwatch in GH and working for him there and for hiring me into Marriott. Steve was a fantastic guy to work with and for, my experience with him enriched my career in kitchen life.
Several years ago I missed you by a couple of weeks as I stopped by Golden Coral in Rapid City on my trip out west.
My thoughts and prayers are with your family during this time.

Susan I’m so sorry for the loss of Steve
My condolences to Steve’s family and friends. Steve (and Randy) were neighbors and my first childhood friends. I last saw Steve when he was working in Grand Haven over 40 years ago. RIP
