Robert E. Stuemky
April 20, 1936 – March 24, 2026
Robert “Bob” Edwin Stuemky, 89, of Rye, CO fell asleep in the Lord peacefully at his home on Tuesday, March 24th, 2026. Bob was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Edwin and Dorothy Stuemky. He is lovingly survived by his wife, Maria Stuemky; children Matt (Martha) Stuemky, Mindy Stuemky, Mark (Amy) Stuemky, Mike Stuemky, Melody Stuemky, Michelle DeLizza, and Jamie (Phillip) Inzerillo; grandchildren Francesca, Isabella, and Collette; sister Beverly Hagerman, and many cherished family and friends.
Bob was steadfast in his faith, kindness, and immense love for family. Those who knew him well will recall countless stories of growing up during WWII, his many adventures camping and hiking, exploring the world, and working for Gates Rubber Company where he retired after 30 years. His accomplishments were many, including receiving thirty patents as a mechanical engineer, foreign and domestic with some co-authored; being registered with the Colorado Mountain Club as climbing all 58 of Colorado’s 14ers (some several times), with the last peak accomplished being Capitol Peak in 1971; and befriending most everyone he met. His heart was grounded in a love for the beauty of this natural world, a curiosity and genuine interest in those around him, and in his devotion to God.
Bob will be remembered for his strength, leadership, calm manner, generosity, and dedication to his family and his church community. Bob didn’t just live; he experienced every chapter of his life fully, finding delight and joy in every day. May his memory be eternal.
Memorial contributions may be made in Bob’s memory to youth activities at Archangel Michael Orthodox Church, 801 W. Summit Ave, Pueblo, Colorado 81004.
I first met Bob back in 1953 in Tulsa when me….as a 11 year old…watched Bob and Charles Gilliland fly model airplanes on a corner lot. They lived on the same street and I lived 2 blocks away. Bob mentored Charles who later became a US Champion model airplane flyer. We all looked up to Bob and I clearly remember to this day sitting at a card table with him where he was showing me how to build models.
At some point I believe Bob was the President of The Tulsa Glue Dobbers model club.
Some time a little later….he disappeared and I was never able to locate him.
I still live nearby.
Charles has passed last year and I know he had been looking for Bob as well.
Finally….I have found Bob but I did not expect in this way.
Sincere condolences to the family from an old friend that never forgot another old friend.
Rest easy Bob….you were unforgettable….
After he retired he studied Archeology and became a member of the Colo. Archeology Club and joined them at many of their explorations.
He loved life and often said he was grateful for God’s Gift of life. He was gentle, strong and steady in the midst of changes and storms. He said of all God’s blessings upon him he loved his family the most and next his church community and friends. He’s left many a broken heart.
I did not know Bob. I was “significant other” of Larry White who worked with him at Gates. Larry passed away last fall. If he were still here, I m certain he would want to express his condolences. Sorry for your loss.
Bob Stuemky was an associate of mine at the Gates Rubber Company. He was a very dedicated, intelligent, thought processing engineer. As stated in the obituary, he was an engineer of many ideas and many ended up being honored by patents. I would hope that the children and grandchildren of Bob would be able to walk in his footsteps and be an achiever such as Bob was. Gates was fortunate having Bob as one of the wonderful “Gates Family Members”.
May God Bless all of his family. I felt honored working with Bob.
Thank you for your friendship and kindness. It showed Christ living in your heart.
