Mildred Lorene Threlkeld, 100, passed away on July 24, 2024, in Pueblo, CO. She was born on June 21, 1924, in Trinidad, Co. to Clarence & Marie Taylor. Predeceased by Dr. Budge Threlkeld, (husband), Budge Taylor Threlkeld,(son). Survived by daughter, Gail Rae Threlkeld; niece, Lori Gregory (Len); and many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mildred earned her B.A. in music from Adams State College in Alamosa. She was blessed with a truly magnificent contralto voice and back in the day was an invited guest soloist for concerts and opera companies. Music and education were two of her favorite passions. She taught Language Arts at Corwin Middle School before retiring after 30 years, and enjoyed being a private vocal coach. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, P.E.O. Chapter AU, and the MacDowell Music Club in Pueblo.
Mildred’s love of music and the arts led her on treks to the Santa Fe Opera, occasional trips to NYC with friends, and showing up to lend support wherever her son and daughter were performing. She enjoyed getting out in nature, taking long walks, stopping to smell the roses along the way. She deeply treasured her family and was grateful for the many friendships that sustained her throughout her long life. A life composed of kindness, compassion, intention, courage, humor, faith, hope and above all LOVE.
Mildred resided at the Chateau at Sharmar the last seven years of her life. Many thanks and love to the staff – especially the dedicated CNAs who loved and cared for her. And thanks to the team at the Sangre de Cristo Hospice for providing an additional level of comfort. Now soar with the angels sweet Millie! You’ve earned your wings.

I never met Mildred, but knew her son Budge very well. I’m sure that much of the spark and brilliance of the life that Budge had must have been inherited from Mildred. I wish the best to all of you, and hope to hear from Gail soon. Please call me at 239-707-1000 Ham Agnew
I met Mildred in 1969 through her daughter Gail, when she and Mildred and Budge moved into my neighborhood and we both started attending South High School in Pueblo. Gail, a lifelong best friend and I have had many adventures over the years and Mildred was part of many of them. As Mildred got older she continued to amaze me with her sharp mind and caring heart. She and Gail became very close the last several years when Gail moved to Pueblo to be near her. Mildred was an amazing woman and friend to me.
I will miss seeing her.
She was my language arts teacher at Corwin💞
I so loved her, she supported my stories and poetry in and out of class.
She was such a wonderful teacher and she has always had a special place in my heart
She would always be there at my music gigs.
She was truly a one of a kind lady. I was proud to consider her “like my grandma”.
I’m so very sorry to learn of your Mom’s passing. Although I never met her, I heard so many stories between you and Ellen and with a daughter as dear as you, I know she must have been something so special in life. Gail, so sorry to learn of your Mom ‘s passing. Mildred was such a vibrant lady, wonderful neighbor, & seldom missed a day of walking while living on Apollo. I still see her when I look across the street. Those were the good old days! Thinking of you.
Gail, so sorry to hear of your Moms passing. I remember her being so kind to us as teenagers, putting up with our antics. Such a sweet lady.
I met Mildred in PEO. She was always sweet, kind to everyone, & gave the best programs. Her kindness & love she shared will always remain in my heart!

Millie was a wonderful person – so joyful and full of life. It was a pleasure to sing for her and talk to her. She will be missed.
