Resided in: Pueblo, Colorado

Mary Jane Griffith Curry, 91, of Pueblo, Colorado passed away on April 20, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was born on June 7, 1932, in Pueblo, Colorado to Dwight F. Potter and Mildred Jane Richards Potter.
A Puebloan through and through, (who often used the phrase “That’s so Pueblo,” with a smile and pride in her voice), Mary Jane was born and raised in Pueblo and graduated from Centennial High School in 1950. She and her husband Al raised their children together, spending much time at the family ranch in Gardner, skiing and hosting numerous exchange students over the years. In her later years, she owned and operated several ranches in Colorado, Wyoming and South Dakota.
Mary Jane loved traveling and took much joy in exploring new places. She especially loved her trips to Maine and Sweden to visit family and friends. Mary Jane was deeply committed to her church and her community. She was a member of Ascension Episcopal Church for over 65 years and for many years was the parish secretary. Mary Jane believed in putting her faith into action. She was a member of Pueblo Service League, a 50-year member of Chapter CI PEO and Pueblo Rotary 43, where she was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow award for her service. She was a volunteer for the Sangre de Cristo Hospice House, the Cooperative Care Center and until the last few months of her life provided cookies for Laundry Love, a ministry of Ascension church. Her gift of cookie baking was well known to her friends and church community.
In her later years, Mary Jane took pride in completing daily crossword puzzles, reading, listening to opera, gardening and, of course, drinking coffee. She loved her canine companions too!
Mary Jane was predeceased by her brother, Frank Potter; husbands, Edwin B. Eaklor, Allen Griffith and Vernell Curry; granddaughter, Hanna Maxand; and son-in-law, Thomas Maxand. She is survived by children, Cynthia Rust (Keith), Christine Griffith (Alan Harrison), Corey Walmer (Jamieson Brookes), Clayton Griffith, Nancy Straziscar (Sean), Karen Ritchey (Jon); stepchildren, Cathy Bandy (Paul), Gail Wish (Steve), Steven Curry (Kirsten) and John Curry (Debra); grandchildren, Brandon Fuentes (Amy), Coleman Griffith (Corinne), Caitlin Honner (Matt), Scott Walmer (Allison), Rebecca Ford (Mattison), Elizabeth Hicks, Grace Hicks, Damond Gallagher (Nora), Justin Ritchey (Angela), Nathan Ritchey; and six great-grandchildren, as well as Swedish daughter, Pia (Lars).
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 26, at Ascension Episcopal Church, followed by a reception at the church. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Sangre De Cristo Hospice or Ascension Episcopal Church music program in Mary Jane’s honor. The family would like to thank Linda Billups, friend and caregiver, as well as Sangre De Cristo Hospice for their compassionate and professional service. 1. CandleImageNancy,
Sending you and your extended family peace and comfort in honor of your mom. She always had a smile when I would see her at church and never failed to stop and have a quick conversation. I must confess that after leaving Pueblo I had a hard time remembering her last name through the years….I told my mom that it was easier to just refer to her as “Nancy’s mom”. May your many memories hold you close to her during this time.

  2. CandleImageSorry to hear of Mary Jane’s passing, though I understand that she was in great deal of pain so I am grateful that her pain has ended.

She was my Mother-in Law for twenty years and was always generous and loving. I will always be grateful for the excellent job she did as a Grandmother to my two daughters. She will be sorely missed by her loving family and friends as well as by the community she served so well. Goodbye Grandma.

  3. Rest in Peace, Mary Jane. The few remaining members of the Centennial Class of 1950 will miss your humor, concern, friendship and love. Our condolences and prayers are with your family and all your many friends. Pattee (Kenyon) Williams
