We lost the patriarch of the family, Leon Sellers, on the night of March 1st, 2024, marking the last of the Greatest Generation in our family. Uncle Leon was born in Spring Creek, Douglas County, Missouri on October 1, 1923. He passed quietly a little over 100 years later in Pueblo, Colorado. He was the baby of the family and like his brothers, he was a prankster and joker. Uncle Leon was a member of the Army Medical Corps in WWII and was one of the first Americans to enter Hiroshima after the war and he had some incredible stories from that period of his life. He went on to become a railroad engineer, a career in which he thrived. His stories of those days on the rails are equally as interesting as his experiences in Japan, and his life on the farm. He married the love of his life, Alberta “Peach” Mackey, in 1943 and they spent 68 wonderful years together before her passing in 2011. Aunt Peach was truly a special woman and Uncle Leon always told me how much he just wanted to be with her again. Well, they’re together again, Aunt Peach and Uncle Leon, hand in hand, just as it should be.
Uncle Leon is survived by a daughter Pam, her husband Stanley, and countless nieces and nephews. Rest easy in the embrace of your precious Peach, Uncle Leon. You are loved and missed.
