Jon E. Verner, 73, passed away Jan. 22, 2011. Survived by his wife of 38 years, Priscilla Verner; sister, Joyce (Max) Fluckinger of Grand Junction; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his son, Jay Verner in Oct. 2007; parents, Gustav and Esther Verner; brother, Joel Verner and sister, Marilyn Huntzinger. Jon was born Nov. 23, 1937, in Laramie, Wyo. He served two years in the U.S. Army. He retired from the U.S. Forest Service as a wildlife biologist and at the time of his death worked for Sports Authority. Viewing from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Funeral Mass, 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at Christ the King Church, 1708 Horseshoe Dr., with Msgr. Thomas Adrians as celebrant.   1. Jon and I worked together for a number of years on the Rio Grande National Forest. Jon was always professional, and relaxed about the job. Most of all I’ll remember him for his rye sense of humor and friendliness. I hope he rests in peace.
