John William Arnold, 62, passed away unexpectedly on March 21, 2020. Survived by wife, Mary (Bauer) Arnold; sons, Stephen (Bethany) Arnold and Douglas (Shaylee) Arnold; grandchildren, Ellis, Ottley and Levi; mother, Margaret Stjernholm; aunt, Alice Zimmerman; his dog, Ace; and numerous cousins and friends. Preceded in death by father, Jeter Hill Arnold; step-father, Richard Stjernholm; and grandparents, Jeter and Nellie Arnold and Chester “Chet” and Martha Irvin. John was born to Jeter and Margaret Arnold on Nov. 11, 1957, in La Junta, Colo. He owned and operated Arnold Farms in Fowler, Colo. and drove trucks for local companies. John enjoyed family, loved spending time with his grandchildren, never missed his sons’ sporting events, traveling, Carl’s Jr. breakfast, GG’s BBQ, Baskin Robbins dates with Mary, restoring John Deere tractors and sporting around his dad’s 1965 Chevy C10 pickup and showing it at car shows. John served on the Fowler 1st National Bank Board, Highline Canal Board of Directors, Fowler Volunteer Fire and EMS for 18 years, was Fire Chief for six years and lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fowler. Cremation, Montgomery & Steward Crematorium. Graveside service, 11 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2021, at Rocky Ford Cemetery, 27980 County Road 20, Rocky Ford, CO 81067. Following the graveside service, the Arnold family will receive friends at 12:30 p.m. for a catered meal at Cottonwood Links Golf Course in Fowler, Colo. Mary and family, my heart is breaking for your family. I was on FaceBook the night before chatting back and forth with John and other classmates about a class picture from the 3rd grade that I had posted. John knew almost everyone! I kidded him and asked if he was taking memory pills because no one else posting could remember that far back. The next morning I received the sad news. Please love the ones you’re with like there is no tomorrow. John will be missed by many but I know he is rejoicing in heaven with his Father Jeter and others. Thanks for the great memories in Luther League, confirmation and school John. You will always be the gentle Giant in my heart. Class of ’76
John was big in stature but bigger in heart. Quiet, confident and loving, John lived every day what it means to be in a loving relationship with parents, wife, children, grandchildren and friends. John will not be forgotten. John, rest in peace and rise in glory.

John and I were good friends for all of his 62 years. He was always the go to guy for information on John Deere tractors, trucks and farming, and always ready to lend a hand. In all our years together of fire fighting and ambulance, you could depend on John to pull his load. One thing you could count on when you crawled into the back of an ambulance, if John was driving, you would get there safely. I miss you big fella. Rich and Linda Jensen

A great man for sure. I absolutely loved the summer I spent with the Arnold’s building their house. There are not many men I would liken to my dad, but John Arnold has the same kind of character my dad had. A man that would gently share his thoughts, help anyone, was a good neighbor, and the ultimate family man. God gained a good man.

I was very close to the family as was the rest of my family. John’s grandfather and my great-grandfather were partners in the Arnold-Harriman Ranch South of Fowler along Highway 10, and up to Green Mountain (La Veta area). Through high school I worked for John and traded out hours to use his equipment to farm my parents parents place for my FFA project. I always respected the “Big Man”, love his family, and was able to see his two sons grow up to the men they are now. Big loss, love you all, you are in my thoughts and prayers.
He was a big man with a big smile. That’s how I remember him. He will be missed.

I had the honor of taking care of John for 15 + years. When I saw him on my schedule, I always looked forward to seeing him. I never had to guess what he was thinking…, because he would vocalize his thoughts clearly. I respected that a lot. He loved Mary dearly and his sons and families. John was a man that would help anyone in distress and not expect anything in return. I love ya big man! I’m very thankful I had the opportunity to know you as a friend. RIP Big John!
