Jeffry Michael Tafoya, 65, a beloved resident of Pueblo, Colorado, born on March 3, 1958, in his hometown, passed away unexpectedly on February 12, 2024, at the age of 65, leaving his family and friends deeply saddened by the loss.

Jeff was preceded in death by his father, J. Mike Tafoya; his grandparents, Fermin and Lorenza Tafoya, and Woodrow and Madge Fleming; his aunt, Reina Clayton; and uncles, Bob Fleming and Dennis (Boone) Tafoya. He is survived by his devoted mother, Betty Sue Tafoya. As the eldest of four siblings, he will be dearly missed by his brother, Jon Tafoya (Nancy); sisters, Reina Carrasco (Ernie) and Jana Warren (James). Jeff also leaves behind cherished nieces and nephews: Crystal and Bethany Tafoya, Stephanie Aguilar, Corban (Bobbie), Jacob, and Calyx Warren, as well as numerous beloved first and second cousins.

A graduate of Pueblo Central High School, Jeff embarked on a journey that saw him begin as a machinist apprentice in the Machine Shop at CF&I Steel. Later, he pursued higher education, earning both undergraduate and graduate degrees in Computer Science from Colorado Technical University in 1998.

Jeff’s career spanned a diverse range of industries, reflecting his versatility and passion for learning. From underwater non-destructive testing to computer programming, A/V system installation to construction/remodeling, and from restaurant operations to property damage assessment, and retail sales, Jeff’s professional journey took him across several states, including Colorado, Texas, California, and Florida. In 2018, he returned to Pueblo to undertake his most cherished role: primary caregiver for his mother, Betty, who battles Alzheimer’s Disease.

An adventurous spirit since his youth, Jeff enjoyed pursuits such as water skiing, snow skiing, and motocross. Golf became a lifelong passion, offering him relaxation and camaraderie with friends and family throughout the years. Known affectionately as JT, Jeff was known for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering willingness to lend a helping hand to family and friends in need. His love for animals was also evident to all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all whose lives he touched.

In accordance with the family’s wishes, no public memorial services will be held at this time, and the interment of Jeff’s ashes will remain private out of respect for their mother’s condition. However, the family welcomes condolences and fond memories to be shared on the Montgomery & Steward Funeral Directors website. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Guide Dogs for the Blind, at http://tinyurl.com/y29kkjpw, an organization Jeff supported wholeheartedly.
