July 17, 1948 ~ April 18, 2023

Born in: Pueblo, Colorado
Resided in: Pueblo West, Colorado

James Michael Rafferty, 74, a/k/a “TruckCo,” “Raff,” “Fajsha,” “Pepaw,” and “Grandpa Fire Station” left for a higher elevation on April 18, 2023.  He now is enjoying a free body in the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Mike was born on July 17, 1948, in Pueblo, Colo. to Dorothy (Wise) and James Louis Rafferty, who predeceased him. Mike was one of six siblings predeceased by his three youngest siblings Gregory, Gary Rafferty, and Sandra Tanquary.

Mike is survived by his wife and ride-or-die Lori Rafferty; his son, James E. (Rhonda) Rafferty; step-daughter, Leah Williamson (Chris Wells); daughter, Mandy (Buford) Blocker; grandchildren, Raelene and James T. Rafferty, Hailey “Saggy” Fogle, Riley “Jingle Bells” Fogle, Aspen “Boogie Butt” Wells and Beausiphus “Boat” Blocker; his two older sisters, Patricia Shray and Diane “Sarge” Rafferty; many more friends and family and “brothers and sisters from other mothers and misters”; too many to mention. He was and is still well-loved and is indescribably missed.

Mike graduated from Central High School and received his higher education from the Spartan School of Aeronautics. The bell rings blue! He was a Vietnam Veteran of the United States Army and was a Screamin’ Screwdriver during his time spent in Phu Loi, Vietnam.  He had a special passion for the UH1-Huey. Mike retired from the Pueblo City Fire Department after 25.5 years as a firefighter. He was a long-time member and former officer of Pueblo’s CMA Steel City Thunder #631 and a long-time member of Family Worship Center.
He put thousands of miles on two wheels and rode year-round. If you didn’t ride in the snow, rain, or hail as well as the sun, then chop you anyway! He said he’d die before he would ride with 3 wheels or use a compass “dag nammit”, and he did for cryin’ outside!
Special thanks to the Pueblo, Colorado Springs, and Rocky Mountain Region VA, especially the RMR VA ALS Clinic, Paralyzed Veterans of America, and Sangre de Cristo Community Care Hospice. And of course, to our family and friends who rallied right alongside us as we fired rounds toward this beast.

His services will be held on May 19th, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Family Worship Center, 3800 Parker Blvd. Online condolences at www.MontgomerySteward.com
