Rev. Joyce William “Bill” Huber (Father Bill)
Father Bill was born on October 19, 1933, to Michael and Gertrude Huber in Palisade, Colorado, the fifth son of seven children. His older sister, Elizabeth, was their first-born, but she tragically died in infancy. The family was completed with the birth of a sixth son, five years after Father Bill’s birth.
Father Bill, always an avid learner and a good student, graduated from Palisade Public School in 1951. That fall, he entered St. Thomas Seminary in Denver, where he completed his studies and was ordained to the Roman Catholic Priesthood for the Diocese of Pueblo on June 6, 1959. His first assignment was as Assistant Pastor at Sacred Heart Church in Alamosa, CO.
In 1962, he was assigned to St. Patrick’s Church in Pueblo, where he served until 1967, when he became Pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in La Junta, CO. In 1970, Father Bill was assigned as co-Pastor of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Pueblo.
Taking a leave of absence from the Diocese in August 1971, Father Bill began his studies in Psychology at the University of Detroit. While completing his Master’s degree there, he initiated plans to pursue a Doctorate at the California School of Professional Psychology, recognizing society’s growing need for marriage and family counseling. He earned his Ph.D. there in August 1976 and received his license as a Marriage, Family, and Child Counselor in California.
In the next chapter of his life, Father Bill moved to Massachusetts to work as a psychologist at the House of Affirmation International Therapeutic Center for Clergy and Religious. After several years, he transferred to the House of Affirmation in Webster Groves, Missouri, where he served first as Assistant Regional Director and then as Director.
In 1988, Father Bill studied at the North American College Institute for Continuing Theological Education in Rome, before returning to Pueblo to serve as the Diocesan Director of Priestly/Religious Well-Being.
In 1995, Father Bill was appointed Pastor of St. Pius X Parish in Pueblo and St. Paul the Apostle Mission in Pueblo West. He served as Pastor of St. Pius X until his retirement on July 1, 2010. His older brother, Msgr. Daniel Huber, moved in with him, and the two brothers lived together, eventually moving to St. Elizabeth’s Gardens in Denver in 2014.
Father Bill had a strong drive for achievement, occasionally enjoying travel and visiting family and friends. He appreciated the arts and enjoyed a good meal. He was deeply appreciated by many for his gifted spiritual direction. Though he endured chronic physical health problems, he lived a robust life until his final years, when his health began to deteriorate.

Father Huber was a resident of mine at Pueblo Villa . I enjoyed our talks he became my friend. I’ve been thinking about him lately.I couldn’t sleep tonight and for some reason at 1:40am I decided to google his name and sadly came across his obituary. My condolences to his family and friends.
Thank you all for sharing your beautiful messages on how much my dear Uncle Bill gave so much life to others through his service to God & our church. May he rest in peace with all the souls he touched throughout his ministry here on earth. Uncle Bill, please give Uncle Dan & all our other family big hugs for me please! Love you! 🩵 🙏
Our deepest condolences to Fr. Bill’s family. He married my husband and I in 1996, and baptized both of our children at St.Pius. We always enjoyed our conversations with him, as he was also our neighbor for several years. He was a great man and will be missed.
Fr.Bill and I became friends through my long time friend, Bishop Tafoya. Headed to a pilgrimage to Portugal and Spain. The night before we left 2 priests from Pueblo had been murdered so bishop could not come. It was so difficult for Fr. Bill and the parishioners. Fr. Bill showed great leadership and sensitivity while leading everyone through the beginning of grief work, including prayers, mass and sharing memories. The trip was wonderful, filled with blessing, hope and gratefulness for the unintended leader, FR.BILL
Rest in peace now and may the perpetual light shines upon you.
God bless. With love and prayers
The Polintan Family
