Henry Frederick Anton, Jr., 88, of Pueblo, Colorado, passed away on December 18,
2025. He was born on November 7, 1937, in Pueblo.
A proud graduate of the University of Colorado and member of Chi Psi Fraternity,
Hank’s devotion to his alma mater defined much of his life. He served with distinction on
the University of Colorado Board of Regents, rising to chairman of the board. He
received the prestigious University Medal in 1992, one of CU’s highest honors,
recognizing significant contributions in leadership and service to the University and the
state of Colorado. His passion for CU was perhaps most visible on fall Saturdays, where
he was an enthusiastic supporter of Buffaloes football, finding renewed excitement in
recent years under Coach Deion "Prime" Sanders.
Hank’s commitment to service extended well beyond the university. Throughout his life,
he dedicated himself to numerous volunteer positions, giving generously of his time and
talents to better his community. He served on the board of Parkview Hospital, on the
vestry at Ascension Episcopal Church, and was a member of Pueblo Rotary and The
Eccentric Club.
Hank owned and served as president of Pueblo Tent and Awning, a fixture in downtown
Pueblo for many years. In the mid-1980s, he started Anton Insurance and Financial
Services.
Hank will be remembered for his sharp wit, his extraordinary memory, his captivating
storytelling, and his unmatched talent for hosting gatherings where everyone felt like
family.
He is survived by his precious wife, Suzanne Sturgeon Anton; his children, Lisa Anton
Hagen (Jim), Michael Anton (Rebecca), and Cori Anton Hord (Erik); grandchildren Tyler
Hagen (Kristen), Hannah Hagen (JJ Evanoff), Michael Hagen, Jack Hagen, Christina
Anton, Thomas Anton, John Anton, Libby Hord, and Matthew Hord; great-grandchild
Sawyer Hagen; and many cousins, nephews, and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Frederick Anton, Sr. and Muriel Barnes
Anton; his sister, Katherine Hakes; and his brother, Stewart Anton.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Ascension
Episcopal Church, 420 W 18th St., Pueblo. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. The
family invites guests to honor Hank’s lifelong passion for CU by wearing black and gold.
Special thanks to Hank’s physicians at Parkview, Dr. Jyoti Bhattarai and Dr. Jatinbhai
Patel, and to the staff at Sangre de Cristo Hospice, especially CNA Jennifer, for their
exceptional care and kindness.
In lieu of flowers and food, please consider a donation to the University of Colorado
Forever Gold Scholarship Fund, Ascension Episcopal Church, or a charity of your
choice.
In Hank’s honor, wear your Buffs gear proudly, tell a good story, and always make room
for one more at the table.
I served on the board of regents with Hank. Just heard tonight at a cu event that he’s gone. Sending love to his family.

I will never forget Uncle Hanks laugh, incredible sense of humor and engaging personality. I have great memories of our trip to Pueblo when I was a kid and the wonderful time spent at the beach house at Surfside. Love, prayers and fond remembrances!
Seeing this notice breaks my heart. Suzie and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Hank was a wonderful man and will be missed. I met Hank through Ascension Church. He was often a greeter – and what a greeter he was! We moved away and then returned to Pueblo after being gone for 8 years. When we returned to the church, he remembered that I needed a gluten free wafer and made sure the Altar Guild had one for me on that first day. RIP Hank!
Hank maintained that Eternal College Kid way of life! Always fun to be around and always upbeat. I will never forget some of his stories. I’m still laughing! He will be missed tremendously, loved to be around him and Susie all the time!
I will miss just knowing Hank is there. I will miss seeing where he has clicked one of my posts. Hank had a good sense of humor. He was a good boss and a kind person. My most sincere sympathy to Suzie and the Family.
We are so sorry to see that Hank has passed. He was always so kind and generous to us. Please find comfort knowing he is in our hearts and prayers. Go Buffs!!!!
I remember Hank well. Always a pleasure to deal with, and just to be around. I enjoyed him here at the business (Rush Lumber) and in Rotary. Rest in peace, Hank.
