Harold Nathan Lewis

Harold Nathan Lewis was born November 9, 1944. He passed peacefully in his home
surrounded by family on December 23, 2025. Harold was born to Samuel Howard
Lewis and Lydia Belle Gill in San Bernardino, California where he grew up. A little over
two years later, his brother Ron was born.
Harold grew up, enjoying both the desert and the beach. He hung out with his best
friends Jim, Bill, and Noel. Sometimes their adventures were mischievous. Harold grew
up in and served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ the latter-day Saints. He
served in the western states mission which at that time included eastern Utah southern
Wyoming the whole state of Colorado, western Kansas, and northern New Mexico. It
was in Colorado that he met his wife Barbara Gayle Rogers. They were married
within the year of him returning home from his mission in 1967. Harold and Gayle
moved back to Gayle's home state of Colorado where Harold became a police officer
with the city of Denver. In 1968 Harold was drafted into the US Army to go to Vietnam.
His tour of duty started in 1969 and ended in 1970. Harold returned to civilian life as a
police officer after his tour of duty and Vietnam was over. His biggest joy that he had
while working as a police officer was riding the motorcycles. He did this for 14 years in
the traffic operations center. With just seven years to go before retirement, Harold
transferred to the range where he became a firearms instructor. After retirement, Harold
was elected and served for several years on the board of directors with the Southwest
Adams County fire District.
Harold was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ the Latter-Day Saints. He
had many opportunities to serve. Those opportunities included serving as a counselor to
three different bishops, ward clerk, ward missionary, stake missionary, stake mission
presidency member, scoutmaster, and Cub Scout pack leader. He also served a senior
mission with Gayle in the Colorado Denver North Mission from 2007-2009.
After retiring from the police department, Harold and his wife Gayle would travel to see
children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors, whether that was
fishing, the shooting sports, or taking drives with his wife to go explore the many ghost
towns and side roads throughout the state of Colorado. Harold also had many hobbies.
He was a talented painter and played with RC airplanes and cars. Having grown up in
his father's machine shop, he knew how to fix engines and work on cars.
Harold was known to have a kind heart and was always willing to give a hand. He
always carried cash with him and did not hesitate to share his financial blessings with
those that were less fortunate than him by always giving a dollar or two to the homeless
person on the street.
Harold is survived by his wife Barbara Gayle Lewis, his son Kenneth Ryan Lewis
(Kristin Lund), his daughter, Holly Lynette Smith (Cory Smith), his grandchildren, Levi
Smith (Kaitlyn Smith), Zachary Lewis, Chase Smith (Nancy Smith), Ashly Moore,

Carson Lewis, Tanner Smith (Savannah Smith), Martin Lewis, Jillian Lewis, and Emily
Smith; and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1411
Fortino Boulevard on Monday, January 5, 2026, with visitation starting at 9:00 a.m. and
Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m. Military honors and interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at
the Pikes Peak National Cemetery.
