As a “younger” District 3 officer, I have fond memories of Gary. I always enjoyed working with him and remember him as a solid, grounded, soft-spoken and definity laid-back. Strange as it may seem, I tried to learn a little from him and his views on life and policing everytime we were paired up which wasn’t often. I remember one time we met for breakfast and Gary ordered something simple and I commented- is that it? And he said yes and went through what he usually ate. He then commented …”if it had a mother, I don’t eat it” I had never heard the expression before and funny as it may seem, it stuck with me all these years. Godspeed, Gary. We didn’t become as close friends as we could have, but what I remember it was all positive. My condolences Cay, he was truly a gentleman.
