Frederick “Richard” Herrera
11/15/1946 ~ 10/19/2024
It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our Beloved Richard Herrera on October 19, 2024 after his brave battle with complications of diabetes and heart disease.
Richard was always full of life. He was an avid outdoors man. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and spending time in the mountains. He enjoyed his trips to Cripple Creek.
His love of music began at a very young age, playing the accordion. He was a member of The Pueblo Pride City Band, Centennial High School Band, and was a drummer for the Telstars, a local group formed with his high school friends. He loved music of many genres.
He has been a Pueblo resident since the age of three, raised by his great-grandparents Nickanor and Pauline, who instilled love and respect of family and friends.
Richard was born on November 15, 1946 in Los Angeles, California to Fred and Janise Herrera.
While in High School, he was in the Naval ROTC and joined the Navy after graduation. He transferred into the U.S. Army (3rd ID) and was stationed in Germany. He was very proud of his military service.
Richard worked as a union laborer under his uncle John Gilbert Herrera, who often gave him the difficult jobs, as he knew they would get done properly. He worked many different jobs in his lifetime. He was the proud owner of his small business “Richies Window Cleaning” for over 19 years. He loved his many clients and would do other handyman projects for them.
Richard is now joined with his great-grandparents, Nickanor and Pauline Vigil; son, Richard Herrera; infant daughter, Raeann Herrera; in-laws, Joe and Josie Gonzales; special uncle, John Gilbert Herrera; and many other relatives and friends.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 36 years, Dorothy Herrera; step-daughters, Davida and Wendy Salas; son, Steven Valdez; daughter, Anita Herrera; grandchildren, Nolan, Brandy (Brandon), Karlee, Seandre, and Jumanne; great-grandchildren, Zadrian and Felicity; sister-in-law, Angie and her family; brother-in-law, Joe Gonzales, Jr. and his family; special aunts, Arcy Herrera and Mickey McCunn; the Esquibel Family; as well as many cousins and friends.
A very special thank you to Art, Sandi, and girls for always being close at hand when needed as well as being his friend and fishing buddy. Thank you to Davida and Jumanne for being there for him. Thank you to all who had him in your prayers. Thank you to my Quest Diagnostics Family for all you’ve done for us. At his request, there will be no services.
“Love of my life, partner in all things, your leaving is overwhelming.
Our love will never die. Until I see you again, rest easy.”
~Dorothy~ ✝

  1. CandleImageDorothy, I am saddened by the news of Richard passing. I know you loved him deeply and he loved you. I remember the day you met. It seems like 100 years ago. Be strong my friend. We don’t see each other often but I think of you and Linda often. I am here for you.

  2. My memories of you I hold close to my heart. You’ve been a part of my life since I can remember and have been like a brother to me. You’ve treated us, your family, with kindness, love, and respect. Always there to make us laugh with your animated energy and a smile and there when we needed a shoulder to cry on. You were the brightest light in the room and your presence will be missed but you’ll never be far. You’ll always be around, watching over us. Dorothy we love you ❤️

  3. CandleImage❤️ Dorothy❤️
I was so shocked to hear this. I loved seeing the two of you together, which you always were, except when you were at work. He was a good man and always pleasant to me❣️ It was obvious that you were his everything and he was yours❣️
Like you said, “rest easy” which is what I echo. Cherish and remember all the good memories you have of him, Dorothy❣️
I always liked calling him “Little Richard”, so with that, I say, farewell, friend❣️ I will pray for you and your family as you journey forward❣️
Love you, Dorothy❣️(my Quest Diagnostics friend for many, many years)❤️
