Verna Rae Savage, 86, passed away May 17, 2022. Survived by her brother, Joel Zinn and wife, Georgene of Tulsa, OK; son, Michael Savage and wife, Dianna of Teague, TX; daughters, Marla Turner and husband Donald of Ft. Worth, TX and Michele Edlin and husband, Kent of Pueblo, CO; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild on the way. Preceded in death by her husband, Teddy Edward Savage; her parents, Raymond and Bea Zinn; and her sister, Hazel White.
Verna Rae was born to Raymond and Bea Zinn on October 27, 1935, in Humphreys, OK. She met the love of her life, Ted Savage, at the age of 17, in Humphreys, and on June 7, 1953, they married in Altus, OK and began their “Many Lives Together.” They had three children over the next four years and then felt called to the mission field in Zambia, Africa. Verna and Ted served as missionaries in Africa for 12 years and helped write the “Bible Way Correspondence Course,” which was translated into several languages and has helped many find faith in Jesus. Upon their return to America, Verna and Ted led ministries throughout Texas, Oklahoma, and Colorado until called to First Southern Baptist Church of Colorado Springs, CO where they were ministers for 18 years. During that time, Verna led the college ministry where she built the program from 2 cadets to 200 active participants. Upon retiring, Verna and Ted moved to Pueblo, CO and she became a licensed real estate agent. After 12 years they moved to Livingston, TX and served in their church home of 2nd Baptist Church where they were the minister of seniors. Upon the passing of her husband after 63 years, Verna moved back to Pueblo, CO and found a home at Majestic Baptist Church where she became an active member. She was also a member of YMCA water aerobics, Majestic Sunday School, Senior Lunches, and an encouragement card ministry. Her hobbies include church ministry, sewing, cooking, faux stained glass, reading, exercise, cultured food, and above all else gardening.
Memorial service, 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at Majestic Baptist Church, 494 E Hemlock Dr., Pueblo West, CO. A reception in Verna’s honor will follow at Majestic Baptist Church.
