Tony Martellaro, 94, passed away on June 23, 2025, at his home in Pueblo, Colo. On August 22, 1930, the world welcomed Tony Martellaro to his proud parents Calogero “Carlo” and Saveria (Gagliano) Martellaro. His blue eyes, dark hair, and loving smile continued to shine through the 94 years of his life.

Like many young boys on the St Charles Mesa, Tony grew up with a deep appreciation of family, friends, and an  understanding of hard work. Tony attended Pleasant View School and once completed he immediately went to work. Tony had a few jobs before landing his final position at the CF&I. At the age of 20 he was drafted by the US Army and served until June 24, 1953. Upon his return to Pueblo, Tony resumed his career at the mill spending the next 33 years working in different areas including the open hearth, rail mill and tub mill.

Shortly after his return, during an outing with a friend, Tony met his wife, Josephine. The moment their blues eyes met they knew they were meant to be and on Nov 26, 1955, they were married. They made every house they lived in a home and in 1969, with a lot of hard work and big dreams, they purchased the current family farm. Here they grew vegetables, fruits, animals, and kids: six to be exact. The pride of his farm became his small vineyard where he spent endless hours tending to the vines, harvesting his grapes to be bottled with the wines at the Holy Cross Abby each year.

The farm was always a busy place and gatherings were always special. Tony and Jo loved to have people around and through the years they celebrated every chance they could. During his life Tony’s pure heart led to many friendships and most of those were considered part of the family. He and his wife would welcome you into their home and make sure you never left empty
handed and with a full heart.

Tony loved to socialize, and dancing was one of his favorite things to do with his wife and friends. He never missed a chance to take a turn on the dance floor with his beautiful bride Jo. He and his wife had a great sense of adventure. Trips all over the US were a normal summertime activity for the entire family. In their 80’s he and Jo decided to take it a bit further
traveling to Europe for 5 weeks and with no plan just stop and stay wherever they were. That trip led to more trips and many more memories.

Tony was welcomed into heaven by his parents; his loving wife, Josephine; brother, John Martellaro; and sisters, Annie Purkett and Sylvia Bobbett. He is survived by his children, Jeanette (Pat) Jensen, Deborah Carleo, Christine (Tom) Martellaro-Ruth, Anthony (Brenda) Martellaro, Lisa (Paul) Bottini, and Frank (Carey) Martellaro; 17 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Rose Payne and Jennie (Tony) Rodasta; along with numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and special friends.

Tony’s viewing will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2025, in the Montgomery & Steward Funeral Chapel. Rosary followed by funeral Mass, 1 p.m. Monday, July 7, 2025, at St Mary Church, 307 E.
