Robert “Bob” Leo Diller, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed into his heavenly home on January 13, 2026 just 1 day shy of his 92nd birthday. Born January 14, 1934, in Cheyenne Wells Colorado, Robert was the son of Leona and Verna Diller and a brother to 6 siblings; Joy and Rosa, and preceded in death by Dorman, Carvel, Honeybell, and Florene.
Bob’s childhood was like most farm kids of the time, from being a shepherd to cutting wheat with his father’s family combine business. He had many stories of napping on his favorite sheep and almost dying as he tried to navigate a large truck down a steep bank while on the road cutting wheat from Texas to North Dakota.
Bob graduated from La Junta High School in 1952 and soon after joined the US Army with the request that he be assigned to a unit that focused on a skill he could utilize as a career. Bob was assigned to the new booming technology of radar, and upon discharge soon was called to be part of the FAA as they rapidly expanded air traffic radar across the nation. Bob spent 18 years in Wyoming and finished his career out at Pueblo Memorial Airport.
Robert met his wife Paula Jean Rosholt in 1957 as she delivered fresh eggs in her parent’s station wagon, it was love at first sight; at least for Bob! On June 13,1958 they eloped and were married in Raton, NM. Thus began their lifetime love affair that would last 67 ½ years. A marriage full of love, hard work, and adventure. To this marriage was born Michael (Susie) Diller, Renee (Dave) Young, Denise (Jim) McGinnis, Ron (Kerri) Diller and Rod (Marissa) Diller. Grandchildren, Emily, Sarah, Anna, Sami, Aaron, Mason, Marshal, Katie, Nathan, Brian, Amy, Jaylen, Malia, Lainey, and Daxon; and 18 great grandchildren.
Bob loved the church as much as he loved his family. He dedicated his adult life studying and teaching the gospel to his children, believers and nonbelievers praying that the word of God would cause one more soul would be saved. He served the church as a deacon and elder at the SW Church of Christ ensuring the church stayed on the biblical path while counseling countless members during time of hurt, crisis, or confusion.
Bob was a fierce competitor and jokester. He had a wicked hook shot and he beat many sons and grandchildren in basketball, young and old alike. He loved to wrestle with his children and his grandkids, playing hours of ping pong, and cards. Not playing cards when the family was together was not an option, the boys would spend hours playing hearts, and occasionally a girl could edge her way in but not often. Hiking, four wheeling, and shooting guns, what fun it was to go to grandpa’s house and shoot prairie dogs.
Bob was the family leader, the defender of the family, and rock in all aspects, but as life began to rob him of his mind, his loving wife Paula learned how to manage the household and finances and ultimately became Bob’s tender care giver, ensuring that he was cared for compassionately and comfortably until the very end.
Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting?
Thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
