Richard Lipp, 92, Lifelong Educator, Korean War Veteran, and Beloved “Bike Man” of Pueblo’s Southside
Richard Lipp, 92, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2025, in Pueblo, Colorado. A lifelong educator, Korean War veteran, and cherished community figure, Richard leaves behind a legacy of service, kindness, and hands-on generosity.
Born in Strasburg, North Dakota, Richard dedicated his life to teaching and mentorship. He began his career in Pueblo, joining the inaugural faculty of Pueblo South High School when it opened in 1960. He taught there until 1963, and later continued his work at the University of Southern Colorado, where he inspired generations of students until his retirement in 1990.
After retiring, Richard transformed his garage into a neighborhood bike shop, helping hundreds of kids fix and build their own bicycles. Known affectionately throughout Pueblo’s southside as “the bike man,” Mr. Lipp was more than a mechanic—he was a mentor, a friend, and a steady presence in the lives of young people.
Richard proudly served his country during the Korean War, a chapter of his life that reflected his quiet strength and sense of duty.
He was preceded in death by his wife Genevieve Lipp (née Appert), spouse Patricia Conci, son Kevin Lipp, granddaughter Nicole Elyse Whitley, and great-grandson Koan Karter. He is survived by his son Kelly Lipp (Laura Buckley), granddaughter Ashlie Petronaci (née Lipp), and great-granddaughter Juniper Petronaci, who will carry forward his spirit of generosity, curiosity, and community care.
