Reimar von Kalben, 85, peacefully passed away on March 21st, 2016, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife, Dagmar von Kalben; children, Stephan (Nicoll) von Kalben and Gytha (Karl) Hinkle; grandchildren, Parker von Kalben (and his mother, Lisa von Kalben), Ashley Lemelin, Austin Hinkle, Jenna Hinkle and Annika Hinkle; siblings, Helga Hou, Dagmar (Gus) Borkowitz. Preceded in death by his parents, Heinrich Detloff and Johanna von Kalben; brother, Merse von Kalben and sister, Gudrun Evers. Reimar was born in Vienau, Germany on February 26th, 1931. He studied refrigeration in Germany, then immigrated to Canada at age 25 to further his education in that field; in 1959 he moved to Pueblo, CO to be close to his sister, Dagmar Borkowitz and family. He always loved Pueblo because of the great weather and the friendly people. After working for Sears & Roebuck for a while, he started his own business, Allied Refrigeration. In 1964 he went back to Germany to marry the love of his life, Dagmar Kaehler. Together they worked hard and grew their business, finally retiring after 45 years. Reimar was active in numerous civic and fraternal organizations, among which are Silver State Masonic Lodge 95 AF&AM, Optimist Club of Pueblo, and Pueblo German American Club, to mention a few. Reimar was also a dedicated public servant. He served on City Council, Regional Building Department, and Small Business Advisory Council for the Environmental Protection Agency, among others. A celebration of his life will be held 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 2nd, 2016, at First Presbyterian Church, 220 W 10th St, Pueblo, CO 81003. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or Sangre de Cristo Hospice & Palliative Care through Montgomery & Steward Funeral Directors, 1317 N. Main St., Pueblo, CO 81003.
