Nanci Jean Welte

January 28, 1954 ~ April 24, 2025
Born in:
Pueblo, Colorado
Resided in:
Pueblo, United States
Nanci Jean Welte peacefully went to be with the Lord Thursday, April 24th, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Nanci fought a tough battle with thyroid cancer for nine years, with such grace that many were not aware of her pain, only her strength and unwavering spirit. Nanci was born on January 28th, 1954 in Pueblo CO, to Gordon and Lois Sullivan. Although she was the youngest of three children, she assumed the role of the family matriarch.
Nanci graduated from Centennial High School, and in true Nanci fashion, graduated a year early. From there, she attended SCSC (CSU-Pueblo). She then transitioned to orthodontic dentistry and worked for Scott Family Orthodontics from 1973-1986.
In 1987, Nanci, with daughter Lauren, married Tom Welte, the love of her life. In the coming years, she took over the role of full time mom and property manager for their family rental properties. From 2019-2024 she felt called by her Catholic faith to volunteer at St. Pius X Catholic Church, assuming many roles, including accountant.
Nanci enjoyed many hobbies, of which included bowling with her team, the “Happy Hookers” and grandson Dane. Nanci loved girls’ trips to Arizona with her mom, daughter, and granddaughters, where she would “shop till she dropped”. Nanci was a jack of all trades. She could transition from classy to country in the blink of an eye. Nanci had a deep appreciation for the cabin she and Tom shared in Westcliffe where she enjoyed sitting at the stream at “Nana’s Place”, ching chinging over a glass of Jack Daniels around the bonfire. She also loved spending time with family, whether she was traveling, canning tomatoes, skiing, sewing, or making the treasured family hot tacos.
As most people know, Nanci was the heart of her family. She was any and everything her family could have wanted or needed and more. Affectionately known as “Nana, Nana Banana, Nana-Momma, My Love, and Beautiful Bride”, she was our rock and foundation. Nanci’s love was a force of nature and her grace and strength will carry on through generations.
Nanci was preceded in death by her father, Gordon Sullivan. Nanci’s memory lives on through her family; mother Lois Sullivan, sisters Sharon (Alan) Cape, and Joan Bratcher, loving husband Tom, daughter Lauren (Tim Jr.) Davis, grandchildren Claire (Gaige) Graham, Ella and Dane Davis, dearest friend Mary Parrish, nieces and nephews, and all who were fortunate enough to know her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love.
The Mass honoring Nanci’s life will be held Friday May 2nd, 2025, at 2:00 pm at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Prior to the Mass, the family invites friends to attend a Rosary, Thursday, May 1st, 2025 at 6:30 pm at St. Pius X Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. John Neumann Catholic School, St. Pius X Catholic Church or MD Anderson Cancer Center. Condolences may be made at www.MontgomerySteward.com

My early childhood friend from 5th grade at Thatcher Elementary all the way through high school.
We had the time of our lives!
Roller skating to the old Centennial from 20th and Greenwood, hiding in bushes with walkie talkies, sunbathing til we were crimson, driving from your house over to Belmont with the top down of your new convertible wearing our bras. Haha! Daring ourselves to take a taste of every single food item in your parent’s kitchen cabinets. Yes, we did! Double dates at Sam and Ray’s Pizza, miniature golf, drive-in movies. Drinking 16oz. Pepsi with Lays Potato chips after school, making rice Krispie logs, listening to the music of the times on your parent’s custom-made stereo, sleeping outside and sneaking out into the neighborhoods on the north side, visiting our perceived boyfriends by knocking on their windows. That didn’t go well. đź‘€ I could go on and on. We may have helped ourselves to someone’s chocolate milk from their milk box. If we weren’t together, we were on the phone. Yes! We had the time of or lives back then. Good clean fun! We were silly and brave. Your parents took me in at a very difficult time in my life and treated me like family. I will never forget. You lived your life with purpose and made a mark on everyone who knew you. Nanci, you have left us too soon, but I am happy for your successes and all the people who loved you. May you rest in eternal peace. ❤️
Nanci was a beautiful soul inside and out. Please except our deepest condolences!
Nanci was a wonderful Lady. I so enjoyed catching up with her at our class reunions. Nanci’s beauty, both inner and outer will be remembered by those of us who had the honor of knowing her.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I was in Dance-A-Robix with Lois, Joan, and Nancy for many years. Joan was my big sister at Centennial. Nancy was such a light in the room. So sorry. RIP
Warmest thoughts and prayers, Dean J. Rougas.
We worked together at Brooms developing and processing film and had many wild adventures.
Nanci’s daughter, Lauren and my daughter, Tatum knew each other and played together until age 5.
Nanci was one of the most kind, thoughtful people I knew and she will be deeply missed. My thoughts go out to all family and friends.
