September 16, 1972 ~ December 25, 2023

Born in: North Platte, Nebraska
Resided in: Colorado Springs, Colorado

Lori Suzanne Berger, 51, was born on September 16, 1972, to her wonderful adoptive parents Walter and Mary Ann Chamberlain, and raised on a ranch in the sandhills of Nebraska. She is the youngest of six children. She grew up running barefoot in the Nebraska sand and loved playing with dolls and riding horses.

Lori, her five siblings, and her parents moved to Colorado in 1983 and ranched east of Walsenburg, Colo. Lori was home-schooled, enjoyed 4-H, and going to church. She married in October of 1989. Lori was the loving mother of five children: Katie, Gage, Jordan, Justin, and Austin. Lori loved her children and taught them to be kind to one another and the true meaning of love. Arguably Lori’s biggest joy in life was raising her children and becoming a grandmother,  Nana or Grandma Yellow they called her.

In October 2011, Lori was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. It was a sudden diagnosis, and she underwent a very complicated surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. Over the past twelve years, she has had numerous surgeries, many rounds of chemotherapy/radiation, and several clinical trials and treatments. She was blessed with good doctors and nurses along the way, traveling as far as MD Anderson in Houston for consultations and treatment. In true-fighter fashion, Lori completed all of her cancer treatments, testing, and procedures without complaints.

Lori can be remembered for the grace, love, and positivity that she spread to anyone that she encountered. She was someone who loved unconditionally, lived life to the fullest extent, and lived for the beautiful moments that life presents.

Lori passed peacefully and gained her wings on December 25th, 2023, surrounded by her children in Colorado City, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Mary Ann Chamberlain; and granddaughter, Scarlett Suzanne Colbert. She is survived by her five kids, Katie, Gage, Jordan, Justin, and Austin; her five siblings, Greg, Jim, Jason, Cash, and Julie; also her grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and loving friends.

  1. CandleImageLori was such a bright, beautiful, and sincerely kind woman. I am saddened to hear of her passing but know she has fought long and hard for so long and is finally at peace and no longer in pain. She was such a strong and courageous woman. No matter what the circumstance, she always was optimistic and continued to show her beautiful smile. Sending love, comfort, and peace to all of her family during this difficult time 💕

  2. My precious Lori, from the moment I met you I loved you. Your spirit has always been better suited for heaven then this place. You are pure love and light in this world as you are now.
Life wasn’t fair for you in many aspects but you focused on the good. Your children, your family, and your friends. You were the happiest, sweetest, funniest person I have ever known. Fred n I were so blessed to have you as a neighbor for 4 years. I loved Friday night cards, morning coffee and spending as much time together as we could.
You made such a positive impact in my life and I strove to be more like you. A beacon. A matriarch, and a forever friend.
Now your watching over us and hanging out with Fred having coffee holding little Scarlett. I miss you every day but to know your pain and suffering has ended helps me a bit. I know your now a guardian angel watching closely over your loved ones. Lori thank you for all the love you gave here in this world. I miss your smile and your laugh and hugs. I’ll see you again one day. I love you.
