Linda Ann Greene Welte Obituary

Linda Ann Greene Welte, 75, of Pueblo West, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2025, after a courageous eleven-year battle with Multiple Myeloma.
Born December 31, 1949, in Cleveland, OH, Linda grew up in North Royalton, OH, graduated from Saint Mary’s College in 1972 with a degree in Elementary Education, and returned to school at age 40 and earned a BS in Mathematics from the University of Southern Colorado.
She met her husband of 52 years, Joseph Welte, at Notre Dame in 1970; they married August 4, 1973. Together they raised six children and cherished their 12 grandchildren.
A beloved educator, Linda taught elementary school early in her career before choosing to be a stay-at-home mom. Linda returned to the classroom full-time again in 1999 at age 49, teaching 8th-grade math at Heaton Middle School for 16 years until her cancer diagnosis forced her retirement. She was named Secondary Math Teacher of the Year for Southern Colorado and was famous for celebrating Pi Day with pie for every one of her students.
Linda was a Colorado Master Gardener, avid crocheter (donating countless hats and blankets to cancer and NICU patients), and a devoted hockey mom. Linda deeply loved her family, loved her hockey friends, and loved her school friends. Linda enjoyed spending time in the mountains, found her happy place in her gardens, and loved feeding her hummingbirds.
Linda is survived by her husband, Joe Welte, by her children and grandchildren, Mark (Jennifer) Welte, Elly and Joey; Matt (Maggie) Welte, Jake and Haley; John (Andrea) Welte, Noah, Leah, and Katie; Paul (Jennifer) Welte, Paige and Vail; Julie (Dr. Neha Valeja) Welte; Jimmy (Mercedes) Welte, Hank, Ace, and Walter, and by her siblings, Dr. Thomas (Eleni) Greene, Diana (Brad) Foster, and Dr. Kenneth (Carol) Greene. She is also survived by sister-in-law Anne (Ed) Henne and brother-in-law Tom (Nanci dec.) Welte, extended family members, and countless friends and students whose lives she touched. Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Edda (DelCol) Greene, and her sister Sandra Soder (Richard Kropac, Art Soder).
The family would also like to thank all the doctors and staff who helped Linda navigate through this difficult cancer journey, especially Dr. Nash and Marie, Dr. Dawod, and Dr. Stageberg.
The Mass honoring Linda’s life will be held Friday, December 5, 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Church, Pueblo West. The Rosary will be held Thursday, December 4, 6:30 p.m. at Christ the King Church, Pueblo. (Please note that the Rosary and Mass will be held at different locations.)
Those who wish may donate in Linda’s name to St. John Neumann Catholic School or the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.

Guestbook

  1. Dear Welte Family,
I am sorry for your loss. Mrs. Welte was an incredible teacher. I, along with countless others, will remember her for her kindness, patience and passion for teaching. She was both understanding and appropriately stern-exactly the kind of guidance most kids need at that age. The world truly needs more people like her. Your family is in my prayers.

  2. CandleImageAfter moving here with my wife Sherry Koski in 1997, we both got to know the Welte’s socially. They were just such wonderful people all of them and I’m sorry to hear of the passing of Joe’s wife. My wife Sherry passed almost two years ago from Alzheimer’s. My heart goes out to their family for the loss have such a young woman.

  3. CandleImageI am so sorry to hear of Mrs. Welte’s passing. I had her for 7th and 8th grade math at Heaton MS around 2011-2012, and she was easily the best math teacher I ever got to have. She set incredibly high expectations and was always kind and patient in helping us students rise to them. I went on to become an elementary school Music teacher, and she is on a short list of the best educators I ever got to have as a student. Extremely blessed to have had her guidance in my life! I will be keeping you all in my prayers, please let me know if you need anything! Sincerely, Noah Suazo

  4. CandleImageSending loving hugs and prayers to the Welte Family. (Matt, Maggie, Jake and Haley, thinking of you all)

  5. Dear Joe and family,
We are so heartbroken to read of Linda’s passing. She was an incredible woman and loved by so many. I will always cherish my times with her. May God hold her tightly in his arms. Prayers to your entire family.
