Linda Ann Greene Welte (1949-2025)
Linda Ann Greene Welte (75), of Pueblo West, went to be with the Lord on November 23, 2025, after a courageous eleven-year battle with Multiple Myeloma (a plasma cell cancer). Linda was born December 31, 1949, in Cleveland, OH to the union of Raymond Greene and Edda DelCol.
Linda grew up in North Royalton, OH, where her family moved when she was 6 years old. Linda attended North Royalton High School and Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana. Linda graduated with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Mathematics in 1972. She met her future husband Joseph Welte on October 16th, 1970, at the Senior Bar at the University of Notre Dame. Joe was dressed as a Colorado cowboy in an Indiana bar. As she was sitting on a jukebox with a sprained ankle, her curiosity got the best of her, and she started to talk to this out-of-place-looking cowboy. They started dating after a few weeks and have been together ever since. After Joe graduated, they dated long distance during her senior year and then she moved to Colorado to be closer to Joe. After waitressing at the Ramada Inn for the summer, Linda’s first teaching job was at the Sixth Grade Center in La Junta, CO for a year. She moved back to Pueblo and taught second grade at Hyde Park Elementary for two years. They married on August 4, 1973, and have been happily married for over 52 years.
Linda and Joe started a family in 1974 and grew the family to six children over the next 11 years. She decided to become a stay-at-home mom after child number three and soon became a dedicated sports mom (mostly hockey) to all six kids. Linda traveled all over Colorado and much of the United States shuttling her kids to practices, games, and tournaments. Linda was on the board and was treasurer for Pueblo Youth Hockey Association. At age 40, she returned to school, attending the University of Southern Colorado (now Colorado State University-Pueblo) where she received her BS in Mathematics in 1995. Linda substituted and taught Geometry at St. John Neumann Catholic School. In 1998 at age 48, Linda returned to the classroom full-time, teaching math at Heaton Middle School for 16 years until her cancer diagnosis forced her retirement.
A dedicated educator, Linda was selected as Secondary Math Teacher of the Year for Southern Colorado. Linda had a special knack for teaching eighth graders, loved to teach middle school math, and showed her students that math was important, not only in engineering and science, but also in everyday life. She wanted to make sure learning math was fun, which included making sure that every one of her students enjoyed a piece of pie every year on National Pi Day, March 14th. A fellow instructor helping her teach a manufacturing class commented that he could tell that there was an attitude of learning in her classroom and one of mutual respect between her and her students. Linda’s family members were always proud when former students came up and told her that she was one of their best teachers ever.
Linda was a Colorado Master Gardener and loved to work in her 13 flower gardens and her large vegetable garden and kept her yard and house vibrant with 40+ potted plants. She loved spending time with family in the mountains and watching the hummingbirds eat out of the bird feeder. Linda spent many hours crocheting blankets for her kids, their spouses, and grandchildren. She donated countless hats and blankets to the cancer centers and to the NICU departments at the hospitals.
Linda loved her family, especially her grandchildren, her hockey friends, and all her teacher friends. Her family will find peace knowing that she is looking down from heaven and that her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her and in every person she touched.
Linda is survived by her husband, Joe Welte, by her children and grandchildren, Mark (Jennifer) Welte, Elly and Joey; Matt (Maggie) Welte, Jake and Haley; John (Andrea) Welte, Noah, Leah, and Katie; Paul (Jennifer) Welte, Paige and Vail; Julie (Dr. Neha Valeja) Welte; Jimmy (Mercedes) Welte, Hank, Ace, and Walter, and by her siblings, Dr. Thomas (Eleni) Greene, Diana (Brad) Foster, and Dr. Kenneth (Carol) Greene. She is also survived by sister-in-law Anne (Ed) Henne and brother-in-law Tom (Nanci dec.) Welte, extended family members, and countless friends and students whose lives she touched. Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Edda (DelCol) Greene, and her sister Sandra Soeder (Richard Kropac, Art Soeder).
The family would also like to thank all the doctors and staff who helped Linda navigate through this difficult cancer journey, especially Dr. Nash and Marie, Dr. Dawod, and Dr. Stageberg.
The Mass honoring Linda’s life will be held Friday, December 5, 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Church, Pueblo West. The Rosary will be held Thursday, December 4, 6:30 p.m. at Christ the King Church, Pueblo. (Please note that the Rosary and Mass will be held at different locations.)
Those who wish may donate in Linda’s name to St. John Neumann Catholic School, to the CSU-P Foundation, to the PCC Foundation, or to The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.

Joe and family, Linda lived a incredible life and left a remarkable Legacy. Your heart has many memories that will keep you close to her forever. “Death leaves a heartache no one can heal. Love leaves a memory no one can steal.”

To Joe and all of Linda’s family: She was a real treasure. We had fun at SMC together and certainly enjoyed reconnecting at the 40th Reunion. She was a dedicated teacher and a brave warrior. We stayed in touch via FB in recent years; she never complained (except about her hair! LOL); never said she was frightened; never asked “why me”. She only asked for prayers and peace for her family. She fought hard against her disease, but she accepted it with grace and dignity. She is a role-model for many. I’m glad our lives crossed back in 1968, and that they crossed again in 2012. You were blessed to have Linda for so long. You are all in my prayers as you navigate sending her on to our Savior. God bless. Jeanine
Dear Joe and family, My deepest sympathy to you for the loss of Linda. She was such a sweet and kind woman. You are all in my prayers.

This is the worst part of growing up. One of the best families to represent everything from success, to puck drop, to driving the Suburban through the snow. All while staying humble.
Love this family forever
I’m so sorry

Dear Welte Family,
I am sorry for your loss. Mrs. Welte was an incredible teacher. I, along with countless others, will remember her for her kindness, patience and passion for teaching. She was both understanding and appropriately stern-exactly the kind of guidance most kids need at that age. The world truly needs more people like her. Your family is in my prayers.
