John Elmer Purkey, 81, was born on December 11, 1937, in Moline, Kan. and passed away March 16, 2019, in Pueblo, Colo. Survived by wife, Mary Jo Purkey; children, Rhonda (Larry) Lewis, John R. (Karen) Purkey, Steve (Chawn) Spera and Chris Spera; grandchildren, Morgan (Nick) Henderson, Delane (Zackery) Moehring, Dylan Purkey, Colton Spera and Megan Spera; great-grandchild, Rae Lee Moehring; sisters-in-law, Anita Purkey and Kay Mulay; brother, Robert (Joann) Purkey; and loving nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents, Fred and LaFern Purkey; and brother, Jack Purkey. John was a member of the Fin and Feather, Elks and Eagles. He retired from King Soopers and enjoyed hunting with his buddies, Charlie, Norman and Steve Ames, Steve and Colton Spera, John, Dylan, Rob and Dustin Purkey, Bill Campbell, Danny Smith and fishing with his buddy Max Flint. Special thanks to Dr. and Mrs. Stephen Vialpando and Jennifer, Dr. Alonzo Pacheco and his wonderful staff. All of the home healthcare workers, Joni Fair Hospice House staff and Ulises Flores. Cremation, Montgomery & Steward Crematorium. My deepest condolences to you and your family, Mary Jo. John was like a Dad to me. He was my very best friend and we had so many great times together, from working side by side, to all our times hunting and fishing trips. I will miss him every day.

Please accept my condolences. John was a very good friend of my dad’s and was a thread, present throughout our lives. I used to love when I was young and he would come over and entertain us with his stories. I hope they meet in the afterlife and pick up where they left off. Thoughts and prayers to all his family.
John was one of my dads very best friends. I’m sure the two of them have already planned a hunting trip in paradise. I am sorry for the family’s loss.
