March 31, 1933 ~ December 18, 2017

Resided in: Beulah, CO

(Irma) Joanne (Hughlitt) Larratt passed away at her home in Beulah December 18, 2017. She was born March 31, 1933 to Pearl and Sylvester Hughlitt and was raised on the Colorado State Farm, where her father was superintendent from 1922 to 1964 (now the site of the Pueblo Nature Center). She graduated from Centennial High School in 1952, attended Pueblo Junior College, and always lived in Southern Colorado. She married Robert Larratt in December, 1954 and had two children; Diane Brown (Tom) of Texas and Dennis Larratt of Littleton; grandchildren Jason Lebel (Anna) of Texas and Tara Legler (Shane) of Wyoming. Grand children are Talyn, Lorien, Ellanyn, (Rynn) and Ian Legler of Wyoming, Briahna and Kevin Lebel of Texas. Her dog Norman also survives her. She had a long career working for the State of Colorado at the State Hospital, State Fair (her favorite), and University of Southern Colorado. She retired in 1996. She enjoyed her second career of photography (some still available at the Beulah Inn) and cowgirl art, such as rope baskets, decorated antlers and paintings on bone. Her dad had a pony waiting for her when she was born. She owned and rode horses continuously until age 77, when her COPD made it too difficult to saddle up. She was active in the Beulah Valley Saddle Club for years. She was able to do some wonderful week long horseback rides: along the Rainbow Trail in the Sangre de Cristo mountains; near Redstone and Marble; the Weminuche Wilderness; in the Canadian Rockies near Banff; and several in Monument Valley of Arizona. Some of her horses were: Tony the Pony; Dan; Pat; Banner; Blaze; Daisy Mae; Plum; and maybe last and best, Beaver. She had numerous dogs, but spent her retired years with Blue and Norman, and loved them dearly. Yeah, her kids were OK, but she really loved the horses and dogs! She had so many loving friends that made her life, as well as theirs, tremendously rich. We thank every one of them! And her family enjoyed so many fantastic memories with her. She is preceded in death by her parents and numerous horses and dogs. A celebration of life will be held Thursday, December 28th, at Beulah Community Center at 12 noon - 3 p.m., including lunch.
