Dad grew up on a 600 area farm in Magee, Miss. They grew all their own food. He had two brothers, Herston James and John Braxton; and sister, Thelma.
He graduated from Raleigh High School in 1953 and received a two year scholarship in football to Ellisville Junior College.
Fresh out of high school, he moved to Detroit, Michigan to work at a car factory, moved to Pueblo, worked at Deleon Grocery in Salt Creek. He drove the city cab and knew every street in town. He was also, a psych tech at CMIP for 5 years. He learned his trade at Clever Carpet in 1961. The rest is history.
Jimmy started his floor covering business in 1963 and owned Custom Carpet & Linoleum for 34 years, retiring in 1997. He was a great businessman who devoted his life to work and service, an inspiration to all who knew him. He could put a smile on your face with his great sense of humor.
Jimmy’s hobbies included – playing golf in Walsenburg, Colo., where most of the tournaments were. His favorite players were Phil Mickelson, Daniel Berger and the great Jack Nicklaus.
We used to go fishing growing up and ride horses at the Ponderosa. They owned 10 acres outside Pueblo.
Dad and Eve loved country music and dancing at the Silver Saddle, where they first met and fell in love. They loved their dogs, Stormy Bird, Mr. Tiff and Blizzard; their horses, Taffy and Gypsy Glow.
Jimmy enjoyed playing Black Jack in Las Vegas and Cripple Creek. Dad loved his Denver Broncos and San Francisco 49ers. Watching football and golf were his favorite pastimes.
