Jerry was born to Leo and Beatrice Gatewood on March 4, 1936, in St. Louis, Mo. He was known to his loved ones as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Jerry will be dearly missed by his family and all who knew him. He loved laughter and was always reciting his jokes to all who would lend an ear till the day he passed.
Starting his career as a plumber for Local 20 and Local 58, he supervised many projects and remodeling of many hospitals and prisons in Pueblo and Southern Colorado as well as the Space Center in Colorado Springs. During the last 10 years of his career, he fought for justice for the working man as an Organizer for the Colorado State Pipe Trades Industry.
Taking his knowledge he traveled to many states recruiting new organizers and took his fight to the Supreme Court. He was given The Bob Sarlet Labor Leader of the Year award in 1995. His belief was that one should be able to earn a wage that could support a family during the working years and have a pension that would continue to support them into retirement.

Sandy:
I’m sorry to be posting so late.
It was a pleasure being Gerry’s Medical Assistant these past 7 years. No matter what he was going through, he always had smile and a joke. I don’t think I ever saw him come into the clinic with sad demeanor. I will miss Gerry dearly.
This is such a sad day but we will remember all the fun we’ve had together as well as all of Jerry’s endless jokes. Everybody should be so lucky to have such a loving brother & sister-in-law in their lives. Sandy, God Bless you and give you strength.
Love always, Jim & Paula

Sandy my thoughts and prayers are with you. Jerry was a great man and you are blessed to have had him for 55 years ! Him and your sister are in heaven telling dirty jokes today. I love you I’m on my phone call away if you need to talk. Sorry I couldn’t be there but I’ve really got the crud and did not want to give it to you or anybody else.
I am honored to have called Jerry a friend. Jerry and Sandy were tireless campaign volunteers for candidates who supported the working men and women in Pueblo and beyond. It was always a good day when they showed up to pitch in. Rest in peace, Jerry.
We are so sorry to hear of Gerry’s passing. He had such an endearing smile and always made our day with his jokes and humor. He will truly be missed by all that had the privilege of knowing him. Rest in peace.
