Delbert Allan Lorenz – A Life Well Lived

Delbert Allan Lorenz, 78, of Colorado City, CO, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on December 17, 2025. Born June 6, 1947, in Littlefield, Texas, Delbert was one of eight children raised on a family farm near Farwell, TX—a place that instilled in him a lifelong love of farming.

After graduating high school, Delbert proudly served his country as a U.S. Army tank mechanic during the Vietnam War. Following his service, he married his soulmate, Jean Marie Peterson. Together, they spent time in Germany completing his military tour before returning home to begin a life that would span 55 years of marriage.

When Delbert left the Army, he and Jean moved to the San Luis Valley in Colorado, where they farmed side by side with his older brother, and best friend Jerry and sister-in-law Joan—Jean’s twin sister. Delbert and Jean and Jerry and Joan living next to each other farming, raising families, living life created a team that experienced life’s struggles and joys over the years, always together.  Over that time, Delbert raised sheep, hay, grain, and potatoes, and 3 children.

He is survived by his devoted wife Jean; children Ann Mead (Brook), Scott (Nichole), and Nathan (Patti); six beloved grandchildren—Zachary, Avery, Mathius, Claire, Simryn, and Eleanor; his brother Jerry and sister-in-law Joan; brothers Royce and Maurice; sisters Wyonetta, Nadine, and Joyce, and many nieces and nephews, including Jason, who was like a son to him. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth, his brother John, and other loved ones who welcomed him home.

Delbert was a lifelong Lutheran, mostly as a member of Trinity Lutheran in Alamosa. He chose cremation, and a private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Delbert’s honor to Sangre de Cristo Hospice (www.sangre.org) or Future Farmers of America–Rye Chapter (c/o Rye High School FFA- 1 Thunderbolt Way, Rye, CO 81069). The family extends heartfelt thanks to Sangre de Cristo Hospice for their compassionate care during his final weeks.

Delbert will be remembered for his quick wit, unwavering work ethic, and deep love for family—a legacy that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
