Christopher Lewis Salerno, 55, passed away on May 19, 2025, in Pueblo, CO.
When I was in a rough period of my life, including several sudden funerals and a life-threatening medical emergency for my wife, Chris made sure to check in on me regularly during our time together on Orion. He wanted to support me in difficult times. And he did. He had a big heart and was kind to his fellow humans. I’ll always appreciate Chris’ warmth and humanity.
Chris was a great person, and I’m so sad to hear of his passing. I worked with him initially on Titan IV, and we were friends outside of work after then. I’ll miss not seeing him at our get togethers and being able to talk about travel, sports, and life in general.
I am extremely privileged to have worked with Chris on the Orion program for 20 years. I only met him in person a few times, but we talked almost every day about work, life and anything else. We developed a long distance friendship, and for that I am grateful. Chris was a great guy, and he will be missed deeply. My condolences to his family.
I had the pleasure of working with Chris on Orion for the past 17 years. He was one of the kindest people I knew and a great engineer. He will be missed. My deepest condolence.
I consider myself very fortunate having had the opportunity to work with Chris as part of the Orion program since 2006. Even though he worked in Colorado and me in Texas we developed a warm work friendship and had many fun, interesting, rewarding conversations on the phone talking work and whatever else came to mind. I always admired the positive energy he brought to the program and how that energy elevated everyone. My condolences to his family, he was just a really awesome person. I’ll miss him.
I am so shocked and saddened by the news of Chris’s passing. I worked continuously with Chris since 2006 until his retirement last year and am heartbroken for him and his family. He was truly a gentle soul, and a wonderful team mate. I remember Chris talking lovingly about his vacations to visit his sister and her children, I’m sure this is a difficult loss for them. I will miss my conversations with Chris about life and of course our common alma mater’s football program that we enjoyed gossiping about. He will be remembered and missed.
I am so sorry to hear of Chris’ passing. He was a colleague and dear friend on the Orion program. I worked alongside Chris for close to 15 years. I was always impressed with his breath of knowledge and experience. I will miss his sense of humor and friendship the most. My deepest condolences to his family!
Chris and I worked together for 10 years on the Orion Mission Analysis team. He was a great engineer, mentor, and friend. He joined us at Thanksgiving dinner and he came to our eldest son’s first birthday party. His love for his family was always obvious – he often spoke of his parents and his sister and nephews. He was a great friend, and he will be sorely missed.
I enjoyed working with Chris over the years on the Titan program. He’ll be missed.
So sorry to hear of Chris’ passing. Beginning with Titan IV and, then Orion, Chris and I worked together for more than twenty years. I always enjoyed our talks about tennis and travel. He will be greatly missed at our Old Chicago get-togethers. Condolences to the Salerno family.
Chris was a member of our Titan rocket mission analysis group. I got along with him great and often times at our happy hours I talked just to him for awhile. I still can’t believe he has passed away.
He was always telling me what kind of a trip he took with various relatives.
To Chris’s sister: I am very sorry for your loss.
