Alene Marie Benesch, 79, of Pueblo passed away on September 27, 2025. Alene was born November 10, 1945 in Nebraska. She was married for 40 years to the love of her life, Harold. Harold and Alene would often spend their free time roaming the mountains looking for wild asparagus or the chance to spy an elk, a deer or a moose. If you ever spent any time around the two of them you know that they were a vision of active love, laughing together and truly enjoying each other’s company.
Alene was an avid reader and dog lover. From the time she and Harold were married until her death, Alene had a dog. Never one for any breed, after a mourning period, she would visit the shelter and find her next love. She never loved any one dog more that the last, just differently than those that came before or after. She loved a good puzzle, be it a word find, a crossword or a sudoku she would jump right in to solve it! She could crochet without ever looking at a pattern, just a vision of what she wanted the final project to look like. If you have one of her table cloths, you know they are beautiful!
She worked the early morning shift as a waitress at multiple establishments in Pueblo, finally retiring from Denny’s in 2014. It was her job that brought her to the Model A club as well as the Tractor group. In both groups, she would meet for coffee, a dinner, or a trip to a car show, and a sense of community.
Alene loved to write letters and send cards, and she did so for all occasions. She and her sisters sent weekly letters to one another for decades. She spent some of her retirement on a bowling league and even after she left the league she still loved to bowl a couple of times a week.
Alene made the best, flakiest, most perfect pie crusts and pies. Her family and friends will miss all this and much more about her.
Alene was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Harold Benesch; her parents, William and Evelyn Gyhra; siblings, Roma (Lawrence) Christen, Willa Boerger, and Donald Gyhra; and two siblings she never met.
Alene is survived by Ruth Stevens, Donald and Phyllis Stevens, Carol Antholz, Barbara and Randy Freeman, Marie Cumro, and Kathleen and Timothy Vaughn; countless other nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Carley.
At Alene’s request cremation at Montgomery & Steward Crematorium with no services.
