Wilma Noreen Stringfellow, 89, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2019. Survived by children, Noreen Riffe, Merry (Rob) Martin and Roy (Cloedean) Stringfellow; and grandsons, Chris and Todd Martin. Preceded in death by husband of 43 years, Tom Stringfellow; son-in-law, John Riffe; sister, Eileen; and brother, James Jr. Wilma was born in Pueblo in 1929 to James and Elva Griffith, who also precede her in death. She was a lifetime Pueblo resident, graduating from Central High School in 1947. Wilma worked at Montgomery Wards and later became a secretary in the special education department of School District 60. Above all else, Wilma was an incredible wife and mother. Through the years, she accumulated several 'adopted kids' including Schelle Polkiwicz, Joanne and Ed Dodds, Carol Moore and Chuck and Linda Willford. Her claim to fame was her melt-in-your mouth apple pie. She was a 50 year member of Pueblo Chapter No. 7 Order of Eastern Star. She was also a member of Captain Peregrine White Chapter, Daughters of American Colonists and had served as chapter officer for many years. She volunteered in the Special Collection Department of the Pueblo City-County Library District and in several city and county elementary schools as 'Grandma Wilma.' For many years she taught Bible School to preschoolers. Wilma enjoyed quilting and was an expert in embroidering. Funeral service, 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 17, 2019, in the Montgomery & Steward Chapel. Interment, Roselawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ray of Hope Cancer Foundation-Willa's Wheels, 1385 S. Colorado Blvd., Suite 714, Denver, Colorado 80222.
