Service for William “Bill” Latham:

William “Bill” Stuart Latham, 75, passed away at home on July 31, 2022, due to Parkinson’s Disease. He was born in Seattle, Wash. Preceded in death by his parents, Robert “Bob” and Jean Latham; and numerous aunts and uncles. He leaves behind his wife, Maryjane “MJ”; uncle and aunt, David and Ann Latham from Hawaii; aunt, Carole Cunningham from Washington State; and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces in various states. He was an only child and always felt MJ’s family was his too. He had many friends from his hometown of Albany, Ore. and kept in touch with them on Facebook and felt connected to his roots.

Bill was raised in Albany, Ore. and spent summers in Lead, S.D. with his parents and grandparents who ran a business. Bill graduated from Brown University in Providence, R.I. He served in the U.S. Army stateside during the VietNam Era due to his linguistic abilities. He served in Military Intelligence from 1970 to 1976. Bill graduated from the University of Los Angeles Law School in 1977 and received his Juris Doctor (JD) on the GI Bill.

Bill began his federal civil service career in Los Angeles, Calif. and met his wife MJ several years later because they were both working in the Human Resources field. Bill was a Labor Relations Manager at several federal agencies during his career and enjoyed his tours in Los Angeles, Washington, DC, Cincinnati and Phoenix. Once retired they moved back to MJ’s hometown, Pueblo, Colo. Bill then did Labor Relations consulting for Indian Health Service in Oklahoma for several years.

As a young man, golf and bowling were his favorite activities and he was always an avid reader. Bill loved listening and singing classical music. He performed at Carnegie Hall in New York with the May Festival and sang with the renowned Cincinnati May Festival Society while living in Northern Kentucky. He traveled with the May Festival to several European countries and performed at numerous churches. His most memorable was seeing Poland just after the wall came down.

MJ and Bill enjoyed RVing for over 25 years and were members of several RV clubs. They traveled independently throughout the U.S. and Mexico in their RV and always had many stories to share of their adventures. While in Arizona, Bill trained and participated in Dog Shows across the U.S. for several years and earned many awards with their Boston Terriers. They visited 53 countries in their 37 years together. They are grateful to Our Lord for the opportunity to experience the world and many cultures. He volunteered at the local zoo and sang with the local Pueblo choral group.  He was a member and volunteer with the American Legion Post 2, Aerie 3367 and Eagles Aerie 145. He enjoyed singing karaoke in English, Spanish, German and Italian.

Bill will be remembered by family and friends for his infectious laughter, easy-going nature and his quick wit and skill while playing Scrabble. MJ extends her warm appreciation to Center Care Hospice for the care they provided to Bill; Pastor Rick Calhoun, Vineland Methodist Church for his spiritual support; special sissy Joyce Dalton and Steve Kitch for their support during the many years of Bill’s journey with Parkinson’s. He had numerous caregivers during the past three years and we convey much gratitude to all of them: Renae, Daniel, Tim, Janet, Janessa and Melanie.

Romans 8:38-39 “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, or height nor depth, not anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God, Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Followed his life through many episodes, and got to see him some, but never enough, lastly at our 50th reunion. MJ and he were a great loving couple and I’m sure Bill felt well supported during the last difficult years.

  5. Matthew k. Solano sr. God bless you MJ and take care of you.love always and keep in touch.

  6. MJ, Lee and I always loved getting together with you and Bill when you lived in northern Kentucky. You two are still among the best memories we have of that time. You are great people! And we loved your Rottweiler, too.
A few years ago I spent about a year in Taylor Mill taking care of my granddaughter. Every time I drove I-275 past where you used to live, I would think about good times.
I always hoped we would be able to see you two again, but knew that health would probably not permit us. Just the idea, though, was such a happy thought.
Bill was such a wonderful man and he was so lucky to have you by his side. For Bill there is “no more suffering . . . or pain. These things of the past are gone forever.” Rev 21:4
    Go with God, Bill.
    God be with you, MJ.

  7. I’m so sorry MJ my heart breaks for you with the loss of the love of your life ❤️ You took really good care of him and was by his side until the very end. GOD bless you 🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼

  8. Bill and I were in Boy Scouts together in Albany, Oregon. We were cabin mates at Boy Scout camp. Bill’s dad was one of the most influential teachers I ever had causing me to become an Engineer. God rest your soul Bill. I will miss you.

  9. MJ: Pat and I are so sorry to read that Bill had passed away. We will always remember the fun times at karaoke with Joby and Bill. As their biggest fans we didn’t always behave ourselves but always had a lot of fun. Bill’s singing songs from the great musicals was so great! Joby and Bill are probably leading the songs from up above and trying to get us to settle down! Take care of yourself. Love Shirley and Pat

  10. I’m so sorry for your loss. You both brightened my day everytime I saw you both. The love you both had for each other was amazing, such a great example for everyone. I thought of you both all the time. I have the cross you both gave me above my bed so every night I saw it I think of you both.

  11. My wonderful cousin Bill Latham was and is so dear to me .

I recall him singing duo with my elder brother at holidays and was not old enough then to know the Opera and other pieces he sang but now a grown up Soprano I envy anyone who had the privilege to sing with Bill !

His life path here on earth was inspiring to anyone who knew of it , although Bill was so modest that it was not as well known as it should be ! Bill knew how to live a beautiful and Honorable life , and great will be Our Lord’s 💗 Love to Bill in Heaven .

The hospitality that Bill and MJ showed to me while newly arrived in Los Angeles is unforgettable to me and they are both the kindest sort of friends and cousins imaginable. They belonged together as two of a rare kind , and will always be .

My cousin Bill made my life better because of who he was . Knowing Bill was a Gift from God to many of us . Thank you Lord , for letting your Grace and delight known to us by giving us Bill Latham for these years !

    I love you ❤️ Bill , and I love 💗 you MJ

    Wendy
