Virginia Purvis Mahaney, 89, passed away March 7, 2004, in Pueblo. Survived by her son, Joseph B. (Betty) Mahaney of Pueblo West; daughter, Joann O'Neill of Fort Morgan, Colorado; grandchildren, Michael O'Neill of New Mexico, Patrick (Stefanie) O'Neill of Greeley, Colorado, Sean (Angela) O'Neill of Raymore, Missouri, Joseph C. Mahaney of Gastonia, North Carolina, Christine (Daniel) Gurule and Isiah of Pueblo; 2 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mary Moore; and many special nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; siblings, Maggie Grier, Martha Jorgenson, Frances Purvis, Joseph Purvis; twin brother, Bruce Purvis; and cousin, Adele Smith. Virginia was born to George and Annie Purvis, April 21, 1914, in Las Animas, Colorado. She graduated from Bent County High School and attended one year of nursing school at Denver General Hospital. She married Joseph Kent Mahaney in 1937, moved to Pueblo, and retired after 20 years of service at Southern Colorado Power Company. She was a life member of OES #7, White Shrine, a charter member of Rainbow Girls #10 in Las Animas, DAR, Telephone Pioneers and Retired Power Company Employees. At her request, there will be no viewing. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 12, 2004, at the Montgomery & Steward Chapel with Reverend Dr. Brad Munroe officiating and Eastern Star Rites by Pueblo Chapter #7, O.E.S. wanted to say how sorry I am to hear of your mom passing away!
she was well liked by everyone at the towers, and has been sorely missed since her leaving, and greater still, since her passing!
I have know her since working with her at the power co. for 15 years!
