Vada Eileen Spade Harmon was born to Van Evry and Itis (Blackwell) Spade on Oct. 30, 1921, in Admire, KS and passed away April 8, 2019, in Pueblo, Colo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Afton Harmon; four sisters, Gladys Michelfelder, Evelyn Bond, Loie West and Rosalee St. John; two brothers, Herman Spade and Erin Spade; and by a step-grandson, Chris Kimzey. Vada attended grade school and high school at Admire, KS. One of her great memories in life was of being a cheerleader. She came to Ordway in 1942 to visit her sister, and stayed the rest of her life. She worked for Albert Flindt at the Ordway Pharmacy four years during WWII. She married Afton Harmon July 25, 1946 in Las Vegas, NM. They made their home on ranches north of Ordway, where they eventually bought their own ranch. Vada was a gardener, a seamstress and a great cook. She had a lot of practice cooking for branding crews and anyone that ever stopped by her home—which was nicknamed 'Founder Corner'. She loved to serve other people. She is survived by one daughter, Noleen Harmon Tecklenburg and son-in-law Doug Tecklenburg; granddaughter, Kara (Trevor) Kimzey; grandson Dustin Tecklenburg; great-grandson Tristan Cole Lind; and great-granddaughter, Laci Paige Tecklenburg; many nephews, nieces, good friends and neighbors. After being saved in 1965, Vada became a member of Highlands Baptist Church. She was also a member of Crowley County Nursing Home Auxiliary, the VFW Auxiliary, and the Red Hat Society. The funeral will be held Friday, April 19, 2019 at Highlands Baptist Church, 5273 Highland Church Rd., Boone, CO (approx 20 mi. north of Boone) Viewing will be at 9:30 a.m., and the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. followed by fellowship and a luncheon. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery at Ordway on HWY 71 at approx. 1:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to either Arkansas Valley Hospice, 531 Lewis Ave, La Junta, CO 81050 or Joni Fair Hospice of Sangre de Cristo in Pueblo, 1207 Pueblo Blvd. Way, Pueblo, CO 81005.
