Thom Stephanchick

Thom was born on March 18, 1945 to George and Frances Stephanchick and raised in Lorain, Ohio.  After attending Ohio State University, he worked at NASA facility doing chemistry experiments.  He then traded beakers for bucks and joined New York Life as a salesperson, obtaining the millionaire roundtable award for several years. During that time, he met his wife Josie, the love of his life. They married on May 18, 1973 and they began their life in Lorain. He then worked for various HUD programs that consisted of housing repair for the indigent. Thom and Josie plus others, were able to weed out corruption and ensure funds were not being improperly used, keeping them for those who truly needed it. After living in various cities in Ohio, the family moved to Colorado in 2000.  The remainder of his career years were spent selling BMW’s that he felt proud to sell and helped many people during that job; definitely was a people person his whole life, was kind-natured, had a wonderful smile, a good sense of humor and had a stubborn streak.   Surviving family members : Daughter Tracey, husband Christopher, grandson Owen, granddaughter Rose; daughter Aimee, wife Tara; daughter Adria, wife Thyme, granddaughter Noa, and granddaughter Stella, son Scott, wife Carla, grandson Aidan. Thom enjoyed spending time with his family.  He was proud of his daughters and daughter in laws.  He admired that Tracey was successful in her career, had a good sense of humor and is a good wife and mother; that Aimee is successful, a caring psychiatric nurse that she was better able with home repair jobs then he was plus her sense of humor; that Adria put herself through college and has achieved much success at work plus being a good wife and mother and having a good sense of humor a trait they all inherited from Thom.  He was proud of his grandchildren: Owen; being his own person, a carefree soul, Rose, an original person and artist; Noa, still young, growing into a smart, caring person, Stella, still young, a deep thinker and animal lover, Aidan, who shares a career choice of Thom’s that they conversed about.

Thom and Josie loved to dance, even stopping at a parking lot while driving to dance to a great tune on the radio, sharing life stories and laughter with family and friends, being out in nature, readings of different philosophers, gardening, and jogging.

Please feel free to add comments if you wish.  The family requests no flowers but suggests donation to the Arbor Tree Organization for planting trees.  Thom loved trees and planted trees shrubs from that organization, his pride was planting a two foot blue spruce in the front yard that is now over 10 feet tall.

Memories Timeline

  1. CandleImageWe will miss you dearly grandpa, it’s incredibly hard to perceive the fact he’s gone, and it happened so fast. He is a very sweet man and the most kind gentle grandfather one could ask for. That will never change, even when life changes.

  2. Thom, thank you for being such a kind and compassionate person. I am so glad I had the chance to meet you. I am thankful for you being such a great friend to my mom. You will truly be missed by everyone.

  3. CandleImageMy heart felt condolences to Josie and the rest of the family. I had the pleasure of working with Thom and enjoyed his stories. I live in Beulah and he use to tell me about Josie and his rides thru the mountains and their love of that. He helped me so much at work and we definitely feel the loss without him. He is truly missed. He was such a kind person.

  4. Thom – you treated me as one of your own children from the day Adria brought me to Colorado to meet you and Josie. You were always showed your love to me and our children, Stella and Noa, and went on every adventure we took during our many visits to Colorado. Your smile was ever present! You are missed. Lots of love and see you on the flip side <3

  5. Thom, I am grateful I met you 52 years ago. You have been my lover and my best friend. The love we had never wavered through the years. You were a good husband and a good father and grandfather to our children and grandchildren. Someday, we will dance again! Until then, you’ll remain “the one” and continue to help me through my life. All my love, Josie

  7. CandleImageDad: I will forever miss you, thank you for being Mom’s soulmate. Love Always, Your Daughter Tracey

  8. Dad-it seems so surreal that you are gone already. Just last year we were jogging around your normal loop at the zoo. I miss you so much. The girls always enjoyed visiting with you-playing at the playgrounds, doing science experiments and playing board games. We all loved you so much. I’ll miss your hugs the most-Adria

  9. Thom, we were acquainted for only four years by working together but we were linked by a shared sense of humor. That and our mutual birthdays, one year and a day apart. I’ll be thinking of you on March 19th. Dave Lucas

  10. CandleImageThom was a good man and friendly neighbor. Being of the same generation, we shared similar values. He was always the first one out after a snow to shovel his walk and drive. We would often see him out working in the yard. We did admire his blue spruce too. Just recently he was out chopping wood in the back yard. We will miss his warm smile and genuine good humor.

  11. Uncle Thom, you were one of the nicest, gentlest people I’ve ever met. I have great memories from when you guys lived closer while I was growing up. I’m glad we got to talk briefly on the phone not too long ago. You will be missed.
