Stella Mae Cobb, 81, passed away on April 25, 2023. She is survived by her daughter, Sharlane “Shane” (Mark) Ammeter; grandson, Josh (Aimee) Ammeter; granddaughter, Michala (Kyle) Barnett; great-granddaughters, Ryleigh Rose Barnett and Emmalynn Joy Torres; various nieces, nephews, cousins, a very best friend who was like a sister, Joleen Watson, her loyal Jack Russell Terrier k-9 friend, “Jake from State Farm.”

Preceded in death by father, Carl Clifton Wilcox; mother, Nellie Mae Wauhob; foster parents, Mammy and Pa; husband of 28 years, David Neal Cobb; brothers Carl, Charles, and Ronnie Wilcox; sisters, Leatha Wilcox and Alva Clayton; half-brother, Calvin Laughrey; half-sisters, Edna and Jewel Laughrey, Ruby, Georgia, Elsie, Neva, and Carlene Wilcox; and her special dog, “Rosie.”

Stella was born on February 7, 1942, in Woodward, Okla. She led a humble life and worked very hard throughout her life. Stella moved to Colorado in 1960, when she came out here to stay with some family members. She was known for her giving heart and willingness to always put others first. Stella had to overcome many obstacles in her life, but you would have never known.

She worked many jobs throughout her life, from working at a dairy farm, cleaning houses, being a waitress, digging and selling fish worms, and then working at Sam’s Club handing out food samples. For most of her life, she was a homemaker, Mom, and Grandma. This was the most important job of her life. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and raising her daughter. She was so very proud of her grandchildren and helped to care for and raise them. She soon became known as “GMA” not only to her grandkids but to their friends also. The “Creme on the Top” came when she became a great-grandmother, giving her the new title of “GiGi.” Her enjoyment in life truly came from her daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, she would have done anything for them.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the Montgomery & Steward Chapel. Interment, Imperial Memorial Gardens. Online condolence, www.MontgomerySteward.com

  2. Stella was our neighbor for the last 20+ years. She will always be remembered by our family as the “Stella who gave full size Hersey candy bars for Halloween”. She will be missed.

  3. Known as Aunt Stella to me, this woman taught me crafting and I spent many days at her home as a child playing with my cousin Shane. You will be greatly missed in the family and heaven is a brighter place with you in it.
    Love, Darrin

  4. Shane,
Our condolences to you and your family. Stella’s Christmas card was almost always the first to arrive. She was kind in remembering us each year.
She was a good friend to Mom (Ethel Peters). We have fond memories of going with Mom and Dad (Pete) to get worms before we went fishing. Our thoughts are with you and your family.
    Love,
    Sandra (Sanny) and Mike McDaniel
