Shirley S. Spinuzzi, 81, entered into eternal life peacefully at home on May 27, 2015. She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Samuel E. Spinuzzi; daughter, Marla (Steve) Reichert; grandchildren, Amanda O'Connor, Ashley Reichert and Tyler Reichert; great-granddaughter, Abigail Reeder; her Colorado family; brothers-in-law, Chris (Kay) Spinuzzi and John Altamore; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; her Texas family, great aunt Marguerite Goodwin; Toni (Mark) Heimler and Robert (Sally)Sheffield; many great nieces and great nephews; and by special best bud, Joyce. Preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Ethel; sisters, Helen (Lloyd) Sheffield and Joan Likins; and sister-in-law, Mary Altamore. Shirley was born in Oklahoma and grew up in El Paso, Texas. She was working as a ballroom dance instructor in El Paso when she met husband Sam and the two of them could clear a dance floor well into their 70s. A dedicated and loving homemaker for many years, Shirley was very active in volunteer work and received an award from the Governor of Colorado for her volunteer efforts. She was also very active in local politics, working on numerous campaigns and served as treasurer for the Pueblo County Republican Party, receiving an award for Republican Woman of the Year. Shirley also served on the Judicial Performance Commission. She was very active in drug abuse prevention and was a tireless worker in the community educating parents and teachers and was co-founder of Families in Action. For many years, Shirley was the spiritual leader of the Pueblo Christian Institute, conducting classes, and providing spiritual education and counseling. She was also the spiritual leader of her family teaching an unwavering belief in eternal life and the omnipotent power of God. Shirley loved the mountains, enjoyed hiking and especially loved looking at her scraggy peaks from the deck of her beloved cabin in Beulah where she and Sam spent countless hours enjoying nature and their mountain home. At her request there will be no viewing. Cremation , Montgomery & Steward Crematorium. Memorial service, 11 a.m. Monday, June 1, 2015, in the Montgomery & Steward Chapel. In lieu of food or flowers, the family prefers memorial donations in Shirley's name to Sangre de Cristo Hospice and Palliative Care through Montgomery & Steward Funeral Directors, 1317 N.
