Shirley Joan Cooley, 78, passed away peacefully, after a brief illness, on Sept. 5, 2008. Survived by her devoted son, Douglas Lee 'Lee Douglas' Cooley of Pueblo; sister, Frances Hanner of Tulsa, Okla.; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, Leon Douglas Cooley on May 5, 1997; parents, Eugene and Ola Fay Ficklin; brothers, Jack, Walter, Milton, Louie, Henry Bart, Gene and Bill Ficklin; and sisters, Helen Starr and Betty Woodard. Shirley was born Oct. 23, 1929, in Vinita, Okla. She was married almost 50 years to her loving husband , Leon, and was the owner of Mode-O-Day Dress Shop in Sunset Plaza. She was an expert at making candy, especially Christmas candy. Shirley was one of the kindest, nicest people you will ever meet! She loved children as she was a second mom to all the neighborhood kids. Shirley also loved her family, the mountains, and she never missed watching her son on television or listening to him on the radio. Funeral service, 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008, in the Montgomery & Steward Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Brad Munroe officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery. In lieu of food and flowers, memorials may be made to Boys & Girls Club/Girls Inc. of Pueblo County & Lower Arkansas Valley, through Montgomery & Steward Funeral Directors, 1317 N.
