Sam J. Cortese Sr., 90, of Pueblo went to be with our Lord and Savior Oct. 5, 2016. Survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Josephine; children, Sam (Debby) Cortese Jr. and Gracie Clementi; grandchildren, Kari Sandusky, Jamie (Wes) Faris, Sam (Wendy) Cortese III and Ashley (Scott) Biddle; great-grandchildren, Riley and Hallie Faris, Baylee, Cole and Bobbie Sandusky; Marcos and Andres Moya, Kali, Drew, Brig, Tagg, Maxx and Kate Biddle; sister-in-law, Helen Cortese; numerous nieces and nephews; and dedicated, family friends, Geri and Bob Teel and Jack Waller. Preceded in death by his son-in-law, John Clementi; grandson, Ben Clementi; grandson-in-law, Jim Sandusky; parents, Guiseppe and Grace Cortese; siblings, Tony (Lois) Cortese, Saverio (Alma) Cortese, Jasper Cortese; Josephine (Robert) Kennedy, Lucy (Enrico) Sforza and Jennie (Jasper) Soldano; parents-in-law, Joseph and Nancy Rose; and siblings-in-law, Ann (Mike) Giglio, Clara (Moe) Indenbaum, Ralph (Peggy) Rose and Joseph Rose. Sam was born Aug. 20, 1926, in Pueblo. He served in the US Army during WWII. He retired from CF&I in 1984, after 37 years of service. Sam was loving and dedicated to his family and friends. He touched so many lives with his kind smile, gentle spirit and willingness to help others. Sam enjoyed playing cards, dancing and tending to his beautiful yard and garden. Viewing, 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the Montgomery & Steward Chapel. Funeral Mass, 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016, at St. Joseph Church, 1145 S. Aspen Rd. Followed by military honors by Pueblo Veterans' Ritual Team and interment at Roselawn Cemetery. Online condolences, www.montgomerysteward.com
