Ruth Gwartney, 93, passed away Dec. 8, 2013. Survived by sons, Jack (Norma) Gwartney, Pueblo, Richard (Sandra) Gwartney, Washington, and David Gwartney, Pueblo; grandchildren, Ricki (David) Uphoff, Oregon, Scott (Shannon) Gwartney, Oregon, Leslie (Ted) Shepard, Pueblo, Todd (Kristine) Gwartney, Pueblo; four great-grandchildren; and brothers, Tom Greenwood and Bill Greenwood. Preceded in death by her husband, Montgomery Hayes 'MH' 'Jack' Gwartney; parents, Althea Mabel Hampton and Thomas Ray Greenwood II; brothers, Skippy Greenwood and Alden Greenwood; and three sisters, Virginia Dietz, Mickey Schrum and Francis Gray. Ruth was born May 14, 1920, in Pueblo, Colo. She was exceptionally creative and talented in many craft areas – sewing, embroidery, costume making, ceramics, porcelain dolls/objects, doll clothing, quilt making and loved to share her knowledge with 4H students, club members, family and friends. She was supervisor for doll entries at the Colorado State Fair for many years which she truly enjoyed. She produced articles and patterns for the magazine Doll World. Ruth had a costume business in her home that provided costumes for many school functions in addition to Halloween. Ruth cherished her grandchildren and provided many Easter outfits, Halloween costumes and homemade party clothes for them. A special thank you to Dr. Roger Mann and the staff at University Park Care Center for all the loving care provided to Mom. She will be greatly missed. Funeral service, 10 a.m. Friday, Dec 13, 2013, in the Montgomery & Steward Chapel. Interment, Imperial Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Montgomery & Steward Banquet Hall following the interment. Memorials may be made to PAWS or Denver Children's Hospital through the funeral home.
