Ronald William Gettel, 76, passed away Dec. 10. 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer. Survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Marilynn L. Gettel; children, Rhonda (Scott) Bridgman, Benjamin 'Biff' (Ronda) Gettel; grandchildren, Brett and Chad Bridgman, Tyler, Sydney and Tanner Gettel; brother, Oliver Gettel of Westcliffe; sister, Janice (James) Piper of Sterling; sister-in-law, Joanne Proctor; and brother-in-law, Delbert Bainum of Hereford, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews; and his loving dog, Bojangles. Preceded in death by his parents, Linden and Cleo Gettel; sisters, Jeannie Dunning and Verlea Bainum; mother and father-in-law, Ben and Lucille Bacino; brother-in-law, Carl Proctor and sister-in-law, Belinda Gettel. Ronnie was born February 3, 1935, in Vroman, Colo. He graduated in 1953 from Rocky Ford High School Meloneers, where he was a multi-sport athlete. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, was a past board member of the Minnequa Club, member of F.O.E #145, B.P.O.E #90 and American Legion Post #2. He retired in 1986 from C.F. & I. as a foreman. Ronnie enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, traveling and most of all his family. He was blessed with numerous good friends and neighbors. We appreciate all of their thoughts and prayers. He will be missed dearly by his loving family. A special thanks to Dr. James Stjernholm, Dr. Andrew Nemechek, Dr. David Trevarthen, Dr. Scott Howe and Dr. Carla Proctor. Viewing from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the family present from 4 to 6 p.m. Funeral Mass, 1 p.m. Saturday, December 17, 2011, at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 11th and Grand Street, with the Rev. Fr. Ben Bacino as celebrant. Entombment, Imperial Memorial Gardens.
