My name is Steve Prentice.
I ran with J. R. For 5 years over Wolf Creek over to Durango. We watched them carve out that tunnel inch by inch every night going back and forth.
One night we were all headed back to Denver from Durango.
It started snowin pretty good I said to J.R. and the others. I’m throwin’ chains.
J.R. agreed. Sam, refused to, chain up and got stuck halfway. We ALL waited for Sam at the top of Wolf Creek. I still remember J.R. saying over the c.b. leve no man behind. Sam finally made it to the top and on we went! Proud and strong mountain men.
That’s what we were. Modern day Mountain Men.
Miss you J.R.
You taught me so much.
