Robert D. “Bubba” Anaya II

If you knew Robert D. “Bubba” Anaya, you knew a man who loved fiercely, laughed
loudly, and lived with a strength that inspired everyone around him. Bubba passed away
on June 24, 2026, just three days before his 55th birthday, after facing kidney and heart
failure with a courage that never wavered. Even on the hardest days, he carried himself
with dignity, refusing to let pain steal his spirit or his smile. To his family and friends, he
was called many things — Robert, Bubba, Chief, Pop Pop, Bobby, and Bear. Each
name held a story, a memory, a moment where he made someone feel seen, safe, or
loved. Born on June 27, 1971, Bubba built a life defined by hard work and heart. He
finished his career, of over 20 years, as a millwright at the steel mill, a place where he
took pride in doing things the right way and helping anyone who needed a hand. His
coworkers knew him as the guy who could fix anything—and who’d probably make you
laugh while he did it. Bubba loved anything fast: NASCAR, NHRA, and Harley‑Davidson
motorcycles. He was happiest with the wind in his face, the engine rumbling beneath
him, and the road stretching out ahead. He loved camping trips that turned into
late‑night storytelling, four‑wheeling adventures that left everyone covered in dust, and
music that filled the house on quiet evenings. But nothing in his life mattered more than
the people he loved. His wife, Holly Hannan, was his partner in crime and the love of his
life. His daughter, Marissa, was his pride and joy. And his bonus children and
grandchildren—each one—felt the warmth of a man who chose to love them as his own.
Bubba lived by four simple words: Family, Friends, Food, and Fun. If you were in his life,
you felt all four. Survived by his loving wife, Holly; his daughter, Marissa; his sister,
Lynette (Bill) Hoyt; nephew, Kyle; and niece, Lauryn. He is also survived by his bonus
children, Kortney (Charlie) Vickers; Kaitlan (Jeff) Brantley; Kenzie Faulk; and Johnny
(Tammera) Hannan; and his cherished grandchildren: Miles, Cormac, Bennett, Zoey,
Maggie, Beckham, Brooklynn, and Layla. He was preceded in death by his parents,
Robert Anaya I and Patricia “Patti” Oliver Anaya. Celebration of Life will be held on
Friday, July 3, at 11 a.m. in the Montgomery & Steward Funeral Directors Chapel. A
reception will follow in the banquet hall. In place of flowers, memorial donations may be
made to the National Kidney Foundation through the funeral home.
