Richard Krinsky, PhD, 81, passed away peacefully at University Park Care Center, surrounded by family, on September 9, 2024. Richard was born on March 18, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan, to Samuel and Pauline Krinsky. He pursued a passion for psychology, earning a degree from Michigan State University. On March 26, 1966, he married the love of his life, Suzanne Richey. In 1968, the couple relocated to Pueblo, Colorado, where they both accepted professorships at Southern Colorado State College (now Colorado State University Pueblo).
Richard’s academic career spanned over 50 years, during which he taught subjects such as psychology, sport psychology, statistics, and memory. His intellectual curiosity led him to further his education at the University of Washington, where he earned a PhD in experimental psychology, specializing in physiological psychology, cognition, and memory.
In addition to his academic accomplishments, Richard also made a profound impact as the coach of CSU Pueblo’s racquetball club team. Beginning in 1996, he led his teams to an impressive 34 national championships, 188 gold medals, and earned an induction into the CSU Pueblo Sports Hall of Fame.
Outside of his professional life, Richard was a talented needlepoint artist, winning numerous awards at the Colorado State Fair. He was also an avid essayist, contributing opinion pieces to the Pueblo Chieftain. These essays were later compiled into his book, Keep It Short.
Richard’s hobbies included riding motorcycles, playing the piano, restoring classic cars, was a member of the World Foods group, was a special member of the St. Charles Community, and he really loved his pets, reflecting his diverse interests and zest for life.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Suzanne; his children, Jason Krinsky (Pam) and Alex Krinsky; his grandchildren, Julianna, Samantha, Aaron, and Nolan; his brothers, Norton (Jeanne) Krinsky and Steven Krinsky. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Samuel and Pauline, and his brother, Donald Krinsky.
The family extends their gratitude to his medical caregivers, especially Dr. Breelyn Wilkey of University of Colorado Oncology and Dr. Michelle Kowalis of Parkview Medical Center, for their compassionate care during the last four years.
