Reverend Gene Widener, 73, passed away June 8, 2003, in Pueblo, CO. Survived by his wife, Wyvonna Widener, of the family home in Pueblo West; children, Dennis (Rose) Widener of Deadwood, SD, David Widener of Wichita, KS, John (Margo) Mylott of Muscatine, IA, and Jean (Ken) Hill of Sturgeon Bay, WI; siblings, Ethel White of Amity, MO, Verlea Kretzer and Rev. Bill Widener, both of St. Joseph, MO; 3 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews. Gene was born October 1, 1929, in St. Joseph, MO and served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He earned 2 PhD's, was a TWA pilot for 7 years, a minister for over 50 years, owned a computer business and a Christian Book Store in Cameron, MO. Gene also founded Majestic Baptist Church in Pueblo West and Pastored there for 5½ years. His hobbies included model railroading, gardening, reading, computers, photography, and prior to his heart attack, one of his passions in life was flying. At his request, there will be no viewing. Cremation, Montgomery & Steward Crematorium. Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, June 12, 2003, at Belmont Baptist Church, 1401 Jerry Murphy, with Rev. Bill Irwin, Pastor Jim Wessels, and Rev. Bill Widener officiating. Those who desire, may make memorials to Belmont Baptist Church through the funeral home. Gene is greatly loved and will be sadly missed by family and friends.

  1. WY – You already know how saddened we are about Pastor Gene. Even though the months have passed, we still think & remember him daily. We KNOW he is in Heaven & in a very prominate spot near Jesus as he was an awesome Christian Servant. We are TRULY honored that he baptized us a few years back; never forget that!   2. Pastor Gene…we have lots of fond memories….lots . I know he will be missed by many.One memory I wish I had shared with him, would have been to be in the first Church service at Majestic Baptist.My heart goes out to all of those who were close to him.Wonderful..wonderful man of God !!

  5. I remember Gene and his family when we lived in Wichita, Ks. back in the 50’s. He and his family would come to our house and I would entertain the kids while the grownups visited.
    I rode back to my grandmother’s in Elwood, Ks.with them once. My grandparents were Hobart and Verba Patterson.
    I am very sorry to hear of your loss. May God be a comfort to all of you and may we all be reunited one day in heaven with our Lord.

  6. We knew and did business with Gene while he was in Cameron. We did not know he was a Baptist Minister nor that he was a TWA Pilot. God Bless.
