Nina Labertew Schmitt, 88, of Pueblo West, Colo., passed away Nov. 24, 2005. Survived by her daughters, Barbara (Gary) Winters and Kathryn (Ken) Hicks, both of Pueblo West; daughter-in-law, Joyce Schmitt of Colorado Springs; sisters-in-law, Zeta Labertew of Phoenix and Velma Labertew of Pueblo; granddaughter, Kristy (Don) Owens and family, of Pueblo West. Nina lived with Kristy, her best friend and care-giver; grandchildren, Lori McClure of Pueblo West, Connie Farrell of Nashville, Tenn., Tracy Jordan of Pueblo, James (Aimee) Bond of Cheyenne, Wyo., Scott (Ann Spangler) Cooper, Pueblo West, Kurt (Allison Miller) Cooper of Salida, Darla Schmitt of Avondale, Dinell Tuerck of Temple, Texas, Dana Smith of Colorado Springs, and each of their families; 17 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Schmitt; son, Gary Schmitt; son-in-law, James Bond; and two grandsons, Larry Bond and Kraig Cooper. Nina was born to William and Alta Labertew on June 14, 1917, in Indianola, Iowa. She and her husband owned and operated Fairmont Park Grocery Store. Lived and rented the first house in Las Alamos, N.M. Nina did volunteer work at the Rosemount Gift Shop and enjoyed playing bridge she also took care of and enjoyed her great-granddaughter, Haylee Owens for six years. Member of St. Pius X Parish. Viewing, Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m. and Monday 10 a.m. to Rosary time. Rosary, 6 p.m. Monday in the Montgomery & Steward Chapel. Funeral Mass, 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Pius X Parish, 3130 Morris, with the Reverend Father Mike DeSciose as celebrant. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery.
